I’m feeling a little rootsy this morning. Maybe it was the overcast skies this morning. It made for a more enjoyable run. The kind of run where as I started I wasn’t interested in running very far then as I got into the run I kept going and going. If only the temperature was like that all the time around here. Not too hot, not too chill. A perfect temp for running. One that doesn’t exhaust you.
It is a day filled with lots of busy activity. As I look up and look at the clock I realize that I’m falling behind on things needing attention. Bills have been paid. Errands need to be run. A partner needs attention for a site I’ve been a part of. A soda company known as Steaz is going to make use of a jingle I wrote, but we need to chat about the deal and a campaign. Damn, I sound like a friggin businessman. It happens now and then.
But I’m going to be getting to more lyrics today as Chris Carter has asked me to finish up a song he has written. I look forward to it. After his explanation of what he wants I already have a clear idea of the direction to take and lucky for me it’s actually very similar to a section of my own life story up to this point. Should be easy to fit what he needs.
In the meantime, I’d like to introduce you to Cory Branan. He came highly recommended to me via another recent Single of the Day artist. There’s good reason for it. Cory has a very earthy quality to his music. This particular song just leaped out at me. I like the rough and tumble nature he’s vibin here. I like the “percussion” going on in the left speaker. It sounds like someone bangin on the side of a barn with a couple of hammers – then running the resulting noise through a filter. I’m guessing it isn’t how he did it, but it sure gives me an idea for some noises in a song I’m working on.
I like Cory’s guitar work as well. He’s really got that rough hewn blues style together in an American form. My favorite part of the whole song is actually a little part where the music and everything stops and he explains he can’t even tell you where the fuck we are. Awesome. That’s true adventure! The kind of adventure that I look towards. I’m thinking about that trek on mountain bikes that I’ve mentioned here off and on. It’s going to happen.
Be like Cory – go out for an adventure. Bring him along as a soundtrack, but do it nicely by paying for it legally.
