Keep on truckin.
That’s a common mantra. I was out at a show in Los Angeles on Sunday evening. Aubrey Richmond had me come out to meet some friends of hers who just came in off tour. They’re called Stonehoney. Think in terms of a band like the Eagles meets country.
While there I’m taking in meeting some new people. During the show out of the corner of my eye I see a lady dancing around who looks familiar. Bouncing around. Swinging. Moving about the room and taking pictures of the band.
Afterwards I discover that it’s Kelly Zirbes. She’s known around the world for helping to raise awareness for Hepatitis C. I know Kelly from a couple years back where she had an internet TV show that featured musicians who weren’t part of the major label system. I did a couple of songs on it. Fun times.
Seems the journey goes in circles because now I’m doing the same sort of thing. Only not directly in a video format. And today Kelly’s song Drive is my Single of the Day. Like Kelly the song has a lot of pick up and get me to go. Who doesn’t like to hit the road and drive? Wait, I can think of one person that I hung out with last night who actually did say he was tired of driving a little. Outside of him, I’m not sure there’s too many people that don’t like to get out and drive.
Anyway, I’m probably one of the lucky few because I have the actual physical CD of Kelly’s new release – The Light. She was all excited to tell me how they really made sure to get a good vocal sound and really work the mix. It’s fun to talk to musicians when they finally have a great studio experience. Great production can certainly help take a good song and give it a great shine. I’m always a fan of a good rock song that makes me feel like moving. I’m thinking it will move you too.
What I meant to finish up with about having the CD is that I can’t find it on Amazon or CD Baby as a physical disc for sale. I guess you’ll only get that happiness if you see her live in concert or bump into her when she’s dancing around a room to another band. Otherwise you’re fully expected to get it on iTunes or Amazon Digital. Go now!
