What is it? Why do people end up agreeing to do something, then pull an attitude? I’m wondering if American’s have come to a point where saying “no” for themselves is extremely difficult. Everyone wants to shirk their word and hide from the consequences. It’s fucking bizarre. The real problem is, the disease is starting to spread to other countries.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned its that if you agree to do some work, do it for the agreed upon contract. If you offer to do it free, do it free. Whatever the offer is, do it. Don’t be an ass about it. If it’s not for you and you realize up front it’s not going to be fair for you, say “no”. Is it really that hard?
I’m shocked at how often I’m running into this in the past year. It’s absolutely insane. Either that or I’m abnormal with a work ethic that isn’t a norm that should be. People complain about being overworked. Why not charge more for your talent, then take less work and do that less work with more energy? I don’t see why that can’t be the idea.
Also, if you make a plan to do something. Confirm it. If it can’t be met, say so ahead of time and either make a change in plan or apologize up front. Don’t wait. It’s absolutely astounding how many operations like to apologize for poor behavior, evil, or wrong doing after the fact. Am I delusional?
I’m making no apology for today’s choice. I think this band has a raucous vibe that is infectious. There’s several elements of 70’s glam rock going on in the production. It’s like a modern retro pop. While Last November spells out influences of the Beatles, Jimmy Eats World and other bands. I’m really hearing things like Imperial Drag, The New York Dolls, and Jellyfish mixed with Bowie. Much more power pop or glam. Obviously they don’t do up the makeup and such. So it’s not glam.
The singer reminds me of Kevin Packard who had a band called Penny Racer – they were also in the power/sugar pop vein. There’s nothing wrong with embracing that sound. It’s always going to have a cult following. I enjoy it. Hell there’s even a biggish festival for that style of pop here in LA every year.
At some point it’s going to become popular with the masses rather than with musicians and people who enjoy having cult status for their musical taste! I know it. I hope it comes soon. There are many a talented band that would benefit from it becoming mainstream and consumed.
If you’re secretly enjoying this, fantastic. Go right ahead and add it to your library legally. I won’t tell anyone. I know the band will love you for it.
