Damn the alcohol.
That’s got to be the thing that most people end up saying after they have a night of drinking. Right? I was out to a BBQ and party yesterday. A bunch of friends hanging around, great chicken wings and lots of beer. Then came the hamburger. I decided what the hell I’ll have one. So I whipped it up with a bit of cheese, slapped it on a bun and started chomping away.
I’m literally on the last two bites of the burger when all of a sudden CRACK! A molar in my mouth cracked off. I had bitten into a little bone fragment in the meat and it cracked my tooth breaking away 1/4 of it. I was like what the fuck?!? It didn’t hurt when it happened, but then the tooth was exposed and that wasn’t pleasant.
Instantaneously everyone is wondering why I’m spitting out the last of my burger and swearing my head off. First I wasn’t about to keep chewing in the event that the bone fragment would do more damage, much less possibly crush down on the tooth piece.
Next step, phone call to a dentist friend in another state. He makes a suggestion to get some stuff from CVS to cover it for the time being. Today I’ve already been attempting to call UCLA for their dentists but they’re not in till tomorrow – so much for the emergency number they advertise.
I had to mellow out at that point. I had junk in my mouth, a tender tooth, and drinking or eating was unpleasant. Ugh. And so goes my saga of the tooth.
How appropriate that I met Tyler from Bourbon County about a week and a half ago. I heard his band on Frosty, Heidi and Frank. They do a bit called Should I Stay or Should I Go. It’s a segment that they do to play local LA bands and have the audience vote on them. I’m not sure I’ve mentioned my results. Which at the time I was on – I was the fastest to the required votes to stay and pursue music. 6 stays in 7 votes – and the one dissenter they even said shouldn’t count cause the guy negated his own reason.
Well since my well done showing, there have been a few bands that have bested that with 6 stays in 6 votes. Bourbon County is one such band. High energy rockabilly is what I would call it. I’ve seen them live and they sound just as fun live as they do on the CD – that’s a big plus. It also doesn’t hurt that Tyler is a cool cat as well. Slamming guitar, pumpin drums, pounding bass, and a fun vocal melody. What’s it add up to? A song that deserves to be on iTunes and hopefully will be soon!
