Ah, it’s nice to take a break. I spent yesterday rolling around Manhattan beach, Hermosa beach and Redondo beach. Hanging with friends, watching the Laker game and at one point roped into helping a friend move. Plasma TVs are fucking heavy and not pleasant to being held for long periods of time in guitar playing hands. At least not to me.
Afterwards came the drama. Two of my buddies were getting into hissy fits over the same girl. Nice girl, cute girl. Not someone I’d want to get carnally involved with. Too many factors that don’t gel with me and even with pointing it out to each buddy (who each agreed), they both continued the cock fight all evening. That didn’t stop some good fun from happening. We ended up at Towne for drinks and dinner.
I walked in roughly 30 to 45 seconds after the clan (the two buddies and the girl they were pinning for) and joined them at the bar where they were already chatting to two lovely girls. In fact one already had a cell phone out like she was checking my friend’s number and he picked up his phone like he was answering it. Thus I’m like well how nice, so I step in to introduce myself. I find that I’m meeting Libby and Lauren. From there we get a table for all of us to sit, drink and chat.
That’s when comedy ensues. It turns out that I was the first person to step in and actually make the introduction. The two pretty girls were merely in the process of getting drinks and hadn’t really met my friends when I walked up. Thus I was the ice-breaker. Then came the name game. I remembered their names, but for the life of my buddy Blake, he couldn’t and they played on it. Constantly changing their names. Then the shots came. The highlight of the evening was Blake attempting to order Scooby Snacks for everyone. The dance between him and the waiter was hysterical.
There were a few more tense moments when one of the two guys would walk out with the girl they were blocking each other for. Go figure. It was all new to me. Usually when buddies know that one guy likes a girl, the friend will back off. This never happened. The two girls, Libby and Lauren, and their friend who showed up later were also amazed by it. Eventually we all left. What an evening. New people, new digits, new experience…
Which leads me into the song for today. It’s one of the versions of a tune that was written by Johnny Elkins and I in the last two weeks. This is the female piano vocal version for a Dreamworks movie. At least that’s the impetus behind it. I’ve got another Brit Rock version of the song as well. But I’m feeling a tad mellow this morning. The singer Dannielle Gaha is the lovely voice who did backups on my Christmas music – I finally had a reason to get her to sing lead! She has an amazing voice and is lovely to work with – aren’t most Aussies (especially with the accent and great humor)? The piano is performed by Micah, whom I met last monday night. Donny on drums. Typewriter samples come from Marian Call – see I did find a use for typewriter sounds in a song. The rest of the instrumentation was me.
Beautiful isn’t it?
It will eventually make it’s way onto iTunes and other outlets, for now enjoy it while it’s here.
