Whew, the marathon recording, mixing, mastering is hopefully over for this round of one song. I think it’s the first time I’ve written or co-written a song where I’ve done multiple versions in different styles. The great thing is everyone really likes both versions. That’s a plus. Next step is to see if it passes the filters of the movie peeps. It should, but then one never knows what’s gonna tickle a filmmakers fancy. It’s a lot to think about when you’re doing so many versions of a song.
The other night in an effort to take a short break in the middle of the madness I went to see Expelled. A documentary by Ben Stein. It’s about scientists who are exploring the building blocks of life and challenging the theory of Darwin. The crux of the movie is that the large part of the scientific world can’t accept the challenge that Darwin’s theory can not fully explain life and evolution. Not to the extent that it’s being shoved down our throats as the one and only means of truth. It’s an eye opening movie. The flip side is that it attempts to make the distinction that Intelligent Design does not have to be connected to Creationism and religious nuts. The argument they make is very good and when you separate Intelligent Design from religion and look at it from a scientific standpoint it begins to make a semblance of sense.
Unfortunately scientists who break the mold and take a stand to explore are getting expelled. Losing their jobs, and credentials. It’s sad indeed. It’s sad to see a ‘tolerant’ society being so intolerant to expanding knowledge.
That’s a lot to think about. I realize that it’s not playing in many places, but search it out. I highly recommend it. I don’t care if you’re a religious nut or a full on atheist. It’s worth your time to see it. The only requirement is to think and open your brain.
That’s my connection to today’s selection… Thinking. It would be nice if more people would do more thinking for themselves. If they only had a brain. We all know where the song came from. The scarecrow of the movie Wizard of Oz. Now it’s being done as a children’s song by Paul Sanchez. I actually like this rendition. The CD is a compilation of all sorts of children’s songs. If you got kids, you’ll want it. So while I recommend this tune as the step in, go get the whole thing.
For those of use without a kid, I tend to like this song cause it gives a sense of hope that everyone wants a brain.
In the meantime, I’m off the beach to give my brain a little break, there’ll be more thinking coming tomorrow – more songs to be finished.
