I got my first thank you note in the mail today. After doing Single of the Day for a good year and a half, nearly two years now. An artist recently featured here sent me a very nice card with a cool bag of tea as a thank you. That was really darn cool. Most of the time it’s a thank you e-mail which is great. I’m happy to be bringing new music to a corner of the world and have readers/listeners paying attention and supporting the artists who grace the page. I don’t make much of anything off the site yet. It’s still a labor of love.
Eventually, I would love to see it grow, blossom, and create a big stir in the grand scheme of promoting music to others. It would be great if it became a venture that would allow one to do nothing else but showcase music.
Speaking of doing things for the love of it. I’ve come across a song via a very strange way to browse the internet – StumbleUpon. There’s a website where you get random sites or videos on the net based on recommendations of other users. Seeing as how I felt like I was getting into a rut and not exploring more of the web, I took a stroll through the vast expanse using their site and saw many amazing things. I will certainly continue to do it in the future.
One of those amazing things that I saw was this video for a song called First Love by a group called The Maccabees. Mind you, I’ve never heard of them. But I do know that their style harkens towards that of something like The Talking Heads, or that era thereabouts. Lots of interesting music came from that time. I know because my parents listened to a lot of it and it was ingrained in my head before I knew what music is/was.
What really set this up to me is the amount of drawing and time that went into the making of this video. How do I know? Well, I’ve got an award winning video that has some similar elements to it. In case you haven’t seen my video for Falling In, click here now! I know from experience that it takes time to think this out, plan it, shoot it, then edit it. Lots of time. Sometimes it’s the video that can really make a song. In the case of the Maccabees, this is certainly the case right here, right now with this video and this song. It’s smokin’ cool.
Go ahead, enjoy, and get the song so you can remember the images of the video every time you hear it!
