How about those Grammys?
I’m actually pleased at the results. A good smattering of new, mixed with the wisdom of those who’ve been around the block a bit. The one person I actually wish would stop being a petulant child is Kanye West. For fuck sakes dude, take the wins and the loses like a man you whiny bitch. Losing the top Grammy award to a musician with more talent in his pinky finger than you have in your whole being is nothing to cry and whine about. Thank you Vince Gill for ribbin him in front of the world.
Follow up a great night of music with an amazing day in sunny So Cal and it’s no wonder why people would flock here. I’m writing to you from underneath the shade of the orange tree in my back yard. While I am drinking freshly squeezed juice to boot. This is a way to work on new music. Good thing I’ve got a writing session today and that we both have the ability to work outdoors in the sun.
I noticed a friend of mine on myspace had updated her profile. A musician I know who shares the same first name as I. We met a few years ago at a songwriters event in LA. She’s from Phoenix. She walked up to me at the edge of the stage, introduced herself and proceeded to tell me she knew who I was. Needless to say it took me by surprise. We became friends and eventually she had me out to Phoenix a few times to play some shows.
About a year and a half ago she wanted to co-write with me. Came over to LA we started a tune, I put the track on disc and she went back to Phoenix to finish it, and then the song never got finished. Oh well. In the meantime she’s been a part of some very special things and did finish the album she was working on. It’s called Pivot. One of the other special things was the Red Paperclip. If you didn’t hear the story it goes a little like this. A guy in Canada had an idea to trade his way from a red paperclip to a house to live in. He created a website to blog the journey. And what a journey it was. I was reading a CNet article about it one day and saw my friend Jody’s name in the article. She had traded him for a years rent in her duplex for a recording contract. That’s where she came into the story. I believe its getting turned into a movie. Anyway, Jody is a great soul. Lovely person, sometimes maddening when you attempt to contact her. Key word there is attempt.
I caught the video and thought, you know, this is nicely done. So here it is for you to enjoy. Even better is that the song and the images go very well together. It doesn’t hurt that there is a power in the song. It kicks in around the chorus and at that point keeps on rolling like a freight train. The end of the song comes and I’m actually left wanting to hear it be longer. That is the sign of a really good song. When you want to hit the replay button.
I’m betting it will snag you too. When it does, click that there iTunes button. Add it to your library and support a fellow artist in name. She’ll love ya for it. So will I.
