Years can fly

So can time. So I’ve heard. I’m also taken aback a little as there’s some rumblings out of Utah of all places. The net is in recent awash (much like Southern California) of searching involving the Deseret News, LDS, The Book of Mormon and so much more. Any wonder why? Well, the president of the Mormon church passed away yesterday. Thus if you’re into that religion it would be a big deal. Much like the passing of a pope would be to Catholics. What’s odd to me is that Mr. Hinckley lived in an apartment. I would have thought the president of that church would have a larger abode than that. Guess there’s always something to learn. Hinckley was well beyond 30 years.

I suppose it’s a little on the timing side that I was at a networking function yesterday. While there I was chatting with a couple who were from Europe. Denmark and the UK to be exact. When they found out where I grew up, the first question was… “Are you Mormon?” In the words of a character out of a movie… “No, is being my answer.” Of course everyone gets a chuckle out of asking that question of anyone that calls Utah home. It is what it is. When I mentioned Park City, they knew right away about the Sundance film festival and skiing. Good change of direction for the conversation.

It would be nice to get the rain to fly. We’re still getting a bit more precipitation here in the basin. I understand that Park City will be getting more snow today. That is a good thing to me. It gives me incentive to get back up there before the end of February to do some more skiing. Mark me, I will do it.

Until then I will have to pass some time and I can’t think of a better concept of passing time in a song than today’s choice. Angelo M. There’s a unique last name. I know of only one other person on our little rock known as Earth who uses a single letter for a last name, and it so happens to be M. Maybe I’m missing something. Should I lop off my last name and go by W? It’s something to consider. Nah.

Angelo came recommended to me by Fran of concertsinyourhome.com and a good recommendation it is. Thus I pass it along to you. The instant attraction for me is the Dobro. Get a Dobro setup and play some sly slide bluesy riffs and I’m gonna be able to sit and listen for hours. There’s something internal and down-home about it. If’n it’s got a quality of class to it, I’m a sucker for it. This has that. Additionally Angelo has hit a pop sense to it. A very snappy bounce of a rhythm. That’s also a plus.

The vocals are also snappy. I think the vibe is snappin. I’d love to hear him do this live with his voice, a Dobro, and a plank of wood for his foot to be tappin on. I’m betting that would really cause this ditty to soar to the next level. In a way it kinda reminds me of a poppier version of Chris Whitley. There’s a man who could hold ya spellbound. Anyone ever seen Angelo M? I know he’s available for house concerts as that’s the site were I heard him. Pipe up and let myself and the world know what he’s like in person.

Until then, don’t sleep your way through life. Otherwise you may end up like the character in the song having spent Thirty Years too long doing something you didn’t want to do. Pick the song up legally as a way to remind yourself to strive for something more out of life.
