Oh how quickly things change.
Yesterday began overcast, then came the rain, meetings, music and messages.
I know I’m attempting not to pile up too many things at once. Outsource is supposedly the name of the game right? Well, the people building the website I’m developing have come back with the initial mock up of things and obviously some things were miscommunicated. Oh the joys. Now I’m in the midst of making notes to clarify. But now I really understand the need for clear definition when hiring someone to do work.
Meetings about tour funding. Oh my. As usual, it’s ok, we’ve got to do this, for you to come to a meeting that. It’s like enough already, is there the money or not. Fucking hell.
A little over a week ago, I wrote a jingle on a whim. My first crack at it. Never done it before but figured hey, why not. I passed it along thru my mom who knew the owner of the product in question. Last night she forwarded an email coming back from the owner of the company who loves it and wishes to talk to me about it. Great news.
This morning I got yet another email from another friend who programs video games. Yes, that big market of entertainment. They’ve fired their current music/sfx guy because he wasn’t providing them with sounds and music that fit the game. I’ve got a meeting with them next week where I need to bring them ideas, so off to a special server I go to see the game in action to get ideas for sounds. Could be a good thing. Haven’t done and music for a video game since I did some stuff for Jeff Van Dyke on Tiger Woods Golf.
I’ve got a meeting midmorning today with my co-manager. Then it’s racing off to a buddy’s studio to create stems of all my all CD’s and songs. Something I really should have done when I finished each project. Something I’ve since learned is vitally important if you ever want to remix or revisit something. Especially when software becomes outdated. Audio files won’t buy software does and if you use software instruments, it’s important to stem them. Lesson learned.
I’ve got lots of things laid on me at the moment. Not exactly the goal of the 4 hour work week. I suppose it’s what happens right? Thus I choose Kyler to bring me some peace today. I discovered her through Fran Snyder of concertsinyourhome.com. My initial thought was, damn that’s a very original and cool name. What’s the bet that she has her parents to thank for it? A name like that, is sorta like a name like mine. It invites teasing from your peers when you’re in grade school. Maybe she got teased a bunch and is subsequently able to handle things well. Lay it on her, right?
I dig the vibe that opens the song. Very spacey. Her voice feels familiar, sorta like Sarah McLachlan. Yet it remains characteristically hers. That’s a good thing. The music has a similar scope to Sarah. Not a bad thing. It works. I like the lifting line in the chorus, the one that shoots two groups of 8th notes in succession. I bet I just lost all the non-musicians in the room. They’re all scratching their heads like, what are 8th notes. “I can take, anything…” That’s the lyric in the chorus I’m referring to. It’s a great little catch to hook the listener in.
Need a good soundtrack for getting by when you have things piling up? This is it. Don’t ya think? Lay it on me here at the blog. Share your thoughts. And should you make it part of your soundtrack to life, do it legally. Kyler will love ya for it. I’ll love ya for it. You’ll feel better about it.
