NAMM is the big deal to kick off the year in the music gear industry. THE big trade show where manufactures show off their great gear and their latest and greatest stuff. It’s also where a lot of musicians go for numerous reasons. Some include getting a chance to possibly meet their heroes. Some are hired to go play. Others are transitioning to production or what to see the new gear. Then there are those hoping to get the chance to meet a manufacture’s A&R rep to hopefully secure an endorsement.
I’ve been many times. However this year I really didn’t put my thought into going. I’ve got the endorsements I want. I’ve got most of the gear I want and know what I want to complete my picture. I’ve met most of the musicians I admire. The only real reason left to go is to see people I usually only end up seeing at NAMM. However, I’ve got other plans for the duration.
Comedy is how I would approach the number of phone calls I’ve received about going to NAMM this year. So many people have been calling up to see if I’ll be going and when. Hey, I’m extremely flattered. But I kept getting surprised responses when people found out I wasn’t going. I guess it’s because it’s a great way to kick off the year. Though I think I’ve got a better kick for myself this year. I’ve been getting some good news in terms of getting promotion underway, but I’m not holding my breath yet.
Also today will be a writing session with Mark Luna. Seeing as how Jupiter Bowl is considered for radio play during the Sundance festival which is also going on right now, Mark and I are putting forth for the next musical creation. I’m gonna push for a slightly edgier sound for the next Road To Zen creation. That’s the name Mark and I are using for our team – Road To Zen.
Name calling is important. On par with face to face interaction. Name calling in the respect that you know someone by their name, not slang curses. Which brings me to a former girl group that had some powerful pop RnB tunes. Of course there’s some great writing going on for the melodies, but over and above it’s the production that really put this over the top on the charts. Everything is perfected and corrected. Love computers for removing human imperfections. Sometimes it really doesn’t matter about the corrections, only that the end result is pleasing. That’s how I view this song. It’s like the dessert to a great meal. It’s that great ending to a real musical treat. Not the dinner mind you, but the dessert and a really good dessert at that.
