Of course with yesterday being the “day of all things Apple” many of my friends ended up chatting about the keynote with me. Oh wait, the Stevenote. One friend in particular purchased an iPhone on iPhone day last year. I would have, however, I spent a lot of time researching it ahead of time and realized it just wasn’t a phone yet. Yesterday still proved that it’s not quite a phone yet, but it’s very close now. I suspect it will be a phone later this year when it hits generation 2. Getting back to my friend…
He was pissed off. Pissed off that Apple did not add MMS texting to the iPhone update. I pointed out, there was ample news of this prior to launch, and that it’s a downside to being on the bleeding edge. His response was terse. The luster of the iPhone has already worn off and he’s bored with it. He thought he’d go purchase a Blackberry and felt that Apple was a bunch of fucks (I’m pretty sure that’s what he called them). Oh the comedy. I mentioned it to another friend of mine who promptly suggested he’d buy the thing and take it off his hands. The first friend immediately backed off and said he wouldn’t sell it. More amazing is that he figured he’d be buying a MacBook Air later this year when his current laptop dies. For the life of me, I can’t explain that type of logic. You hate a company because it doesn’t give you what you want, but you continue to buy their products?!?
Me, I was a little bummed they didn’t release updates for the monitors, so I tripped over to the Apple store and picked up a 30″ Cinema display. I got it home and found out that it is much larger than it looks in the store. I had to disassemble my audio desk to make use of the monitor. Nothing like tearing apart a studio when you’re working on something. However, I got it in, up and running and finished the project. The monitor is insane! It’s almost too friggin big. And to think I wanted two of these side by side. That would be too much.
I did forget to mention that I saw The Bucket List the night before. I’ve been hearing mixed reviews on it, but when do you get to see people living their lives in a carefree manner? Plus I was a little bored and in need of seeing a movie. Personally I enjoyed it. It’s painful to watch the cancer parts, but the humor is great. I nearly fell out my seat a couple of times from some of the jokes. So appropriate. The final joke was perfect. I won’t divulge, but you don’t cry from laughing so hard, then something is wrong with you.
Here’s a second uptempo number to keep the blood pumping for the week. This comes courtesy of Dallas Texas. Which in any direction to get to another state in the union is roughly 1000 miles. Well, maybe not 1000 miles, but Texas is one big fucking state. Thus it requires some big music to come out of it. I get the feeling of big in this song. In a way it reminds me of some friends of mine out of Las Vegas (Big Bad Zero). I think the singer is the unique aspect here. He’s got a voice that is easy to listen too. It’s clean, and fits into the vibe of this song easily. The rhythm guitars are very solid too. There’s a nice crunch and urgency going on here.
Some thought definitely went into the drum parts as there’s a lot of coordination between the rhythm structures of the hits with the chords and kick drum. On the speakers I’m listening on the kick is clearly cutting though. Thus it’s easy to hear the thought that went into it. I like the vocal layering too. It adds some good weight. I almost want the clean guitars in the verses to have a bit more grit to them to propel them, but they’re holding their own. Those are my reasons for diggin this song and I’m sticking to it.
