If you’re into anything Tech, today was a day of interest. Apple’s main man Steve Jobs gave his keynote speech today. Who here thinks it ought to be called a Stevenote? Certainly some interesting things came out of it. New software updates. Movie rentals (I like that!). iPhone and iTouch updates. Then there’s the new ultra thin laptop the Macbook Air. Interestingly enough Apple’s stock dropped. Obviously, I think people were hoping for iPhone hardware updates. One friend of mine who owns an iPhone was actually pissed off they didn’t add MMS texting. Pissed to the tune of saying he’d go buy a Blackberry Curve. Rather drastic no?
Personally I was hoping for monitor updates. Its been an awfully long time since they updated their monitor line. My hope was they would announce new monitors made with LED backlighting like my lappy. Unfortunately that didn’t happen. Yet I’m still monitorless in the studio. Thus today I’ll be making the trek to the Apple store to buy a new monitor for the studio. Got to get back to work on new songs and such without controlling it through another computer’s monitor.
Thus the one person Apple-heads need to know is Steve Jobs. He’s everyone they need to know. Right?
Which brings me to the upbeat tune of today. By a band which I think has a very clever name. The Lives of Famous Men. They could do a really interesting release doing biographies of famous men in history. That would be ultra clever. I will say they have that modern vibe that is relevant to bands like Fallout Boy, Good Charlotte and others. I like the singers voice. It’s very clean and able to sell the sense of urgency that they have in the music. It’s a good fit.
It’s scary to think what they’d achieve with a powerhouse producer behind them. There are inklings in the writing that suggest they can and will go beyond the standard angst fair that most modern bands in that ilk are doing. That’s a good thing. It means they’ll grow into their own thing.
The jump start is the piano part right off the bat. Boom, we’re off on a run. And the lyrics perfectly seem to denote what investors were hoping from Apple and fell short. The operation didn’t live up to the expectation this year, like it did last year. Bounce – it’s in there. I dig that.
Ari mentioned to me that this is an old CD of theirs. They’d like you to know that you can get it here as well: Smartpunk. They do have newer material. So do go explore. Otherwise, go get the digital versions at CD Baby or iTunes. Do it. You’ll be happy you did. So will they.
Nicely written commentary on the “Stevenote”. I personally was hoping for an iPhone update as well. As for the song, I must say it tickles my fancy, I am more partial to their new EP Modern Love, the Wooden in which they do have a powerhouse producer behind them. (James Paul Wisner) I don’t think I would compare them to Fallout Boy or Good Charlotte, those bands are far to generic and simple. I would compare them to the likes of Head Automatica.
Awesome. I’ll have to do some more exploring of my own. Like I mentioned in the blog, TLOFM has more potential than the bands I mentioned. But they do have an element of familiarity which helps them get fans.
