What better way is there than to end the year in the midst of a throng of people? Las Vegas. I’ve done it numerous times over the past several years. Why? It’s a guaranteed riot of action. That’s why.
Now most blogs, newspapers, magazines, TV shows, etc, are spending this past week and even today reminiscing on 2007. Me personally I say time to move on. I’d prefer to see you next year in 2008. 2007 had started with a wiz-bang that looked extremely promising and ended up petering out pretty poorly. Fortunately it looks as though the mess that occurred may very well turn around and be what 2007 was supposed to be – at least for me. What did I get out of it? 40 new songs – one of which you may have heard if you’ve been following Single of the Day. That’s all I’ve got to say about 2007.
Well, maybe one or two more things… It seems that heiress known as Paris has been cut out of her grandfather’s will. Ouch. Paris Hilton is apparently not getting money from Barron Hilton. That’s a lot of dough to miss out on. However, we’re all about the music here on Single of the Day. Since we like music we’ll go with people like the Von Trapp family instead. Right now fictional members of the Von Trapp family have been in the Sound of Music. More importantly there are Von Trapps that are into making snow for skiing on. Which is something I’ll be doing later today. Skiing. Though it will be on nature made snow and not man made snow.
Looking forward, I’d like to start with ringing out the year with an inventive musician I’ve come across thanks to Fran Snyder and his website www.concertsinyourhome.com. Think about that for a moment. A Concert In Your Home. If you haven’t heard of this concept, it’s actually not something new. But it is something that is gaining some popularity. It’s where you gather a bunch of your friends and neighbors in your biggest room in the house, set up some seating, possibly make some food, and have a musician perform for you in your house. Very intimate. Very real. Very cool. Visit the website concertsinyourhome.com to get a bigger picture of what it’s all about.
Adrianne. A single name artist who packs a punch. What do I like about her? She’s got vibe. The effect going on on the guitar is actually very unique. In that it feels very much like how the guitar should have sounded with that delay. Usually adding things like delays or choruses, flanges, etc to an acoustic tend not to work. This isn’t one of those times. As it is said imitation is the ultimate form of flattery. Don’t be surprised if you hear something like this production technique in one of the 40 songs I’ve got coming. I’ll certainly have to experiment a bit to get a different flavor that works as well, but I’m determined to do it.
Another thing that I appreciate about Adrianne is that she’s a member of SESAC. Since there’s so few of us performing artists, and even writers that are represented by SESAC it’s like meeting a friend even if you’ve never met them before. I tend to find that SESAC artists are more inventive, most of the time. I like that.
The voice. Adrianne has a sweet voice that compliments this guitar sound. Even visa versa. I’ll go out on a limb right now and say that I would invite Adrianne to sing a duet on something especially a co-write. I’d even hire her to do backing vocals along with Danniella Gaha on my next CD. Can never have enough amazing voices on a recording. Is that a high enough compliment? I’m not sure I can give any higher praise.
Can you think of another reason I could give about the music that I’m a sucker for? It’s something I’ve mentioned numerous times, especially in the past week or so, but also since day one.
