Since we’re nearing the end of the year – you know, one more day to go. I figured it would be a good idea to star putting the idea of being a bit more global in your ear for next year 2008. There probably aren’t too many people who wouldn’t want to be a superstar in some fashion. It’s a pretty common thing isn’t it?
I know I’ve been contacted by musicians on things like myspace asking for my advice about music. Asking me to hook them up with my connections to make them a star. It’s a bit weird to be asked that. Especially when I’m not even a household name yet. Maybe I ought to suggest acting like Timothy Treadwell or Christopher McCandless. Both are people who decided to take up residence in Alaska, seeking something within themselves. Both ended up becoming infamous, unfortunately through death. They did things on their own terms.
Timothy Treadwell went into an area of Alaska to be with grizzly bears and figure them out. Unfortunately for Tim, one of those same bears that he felt he befriended is what took his life. If you haven’t seen the movie, it’s bizarre. He was strange. And listening to the tape of the mauling, well, it’s what it is, not fun. The other infamous Alaskan tale comes through Christopher McCandless. You might know him better by the title Into The Wild. The book written by John Krakauer or the movie directed by Sean Penn. Yet another person who life by his own reigns and it ended up costing him his life. The twist is, they’ve both become superstars – for what it’s worth.
Thus the reality on my answer to people is that, I guard my contacts as I would want them to guard me. I will pass along something I think is true quality. That’s also part of my goal with Single of the Day, to help others gain notoriety. I have my goal and at the moment, it’s what I’m working on with my contacts. Once I’ve gotten into the mix on my terms, I’ll feel more secure in passing along better advice.
Today’s Sunday’s Child is an artist I’ve not actually met in person, but I have met his label representative. Freddy Cameron is a cool bloke. We met early in 2007 at a NARIP event. We got to talking and of course I mentioned the blog. I had it in mind to put the song up much sooner but things I wanted to tie into it didn’t materialize as I thought they would. I do think it makes for a nice jump from 2007 to 2008, thus now is the time. Although I’m not sure why it’s not yet up on iTunes.
Michael’s writing and voice is very reminiscent of Brendan Lynch to me. If you’d like to get a whiff of Brendan, you’ll have to backtrack through the archives of Single of the Day. I’ve featured him not too long ago. The difference is that Michael is a bit more modern sounding in terms of his production. Which would make sense. He’s newer. I think the chorus has a character that hooks into you. The guitar riff coming out of the chorus is set up in such a way that it sticks out and infects your head. Meaning you’ll remember that little bendy bend thing. What sets that apart is that it’s doubled in a octave (more character).
As I said, who doesn’t want to be a superstar? Here’s your anthem. The CD is available on CD Baby. Hopefully the single will be on iTunes before too long. See ya tomorrow.
