It’s gonna be a white Christmas! Not only that, it’s gonna be damn cold to boot. Woo Hoo. This is my memory of what Christmas is to be and it’s here in spades. Yesterday was certainly an exercise in chill. I slept in, oh yeah. I’m thinking it’s one of the first times my mom hasn’t attempted to get me up by a certain time. Another great thing. It was the family Christmas party yesterday. The big annual gathering from my mom’s side. Lots and lots of cousins and their kids. It’s generally a fun time. Santa even showed up to give the littlest ones some special Christmas stockings filled with goodies from his big red back of toys.
That’s right, Santa has some sorta of special agreement to show up at my uncle’s house a few days prior to Christmas. I’m thinking that deal was done by my grandpa. But neither one is saying how or why, so I don’t ask. It’s just the way it is.
Today’s Sunday’s Child is a special one in my ears. Randy came highly recommended to me by someone who was recently featured on Single of the Day. Ande Rasmussen – co-writer on the recent Christmas song from last Sunday. He gave me a link for Randy’s stuff. Being that Randy’s got some serious backing going on with a huge agent, I figured I wouldn’t actually hear from him. I was wrong. Instead I got a message back saying he was honored to be featured but didn’t think his publisher would allow it. Then not long after, a little present showed up in my inbox. How’s that for being a really cool guy?!?
Obviously I don’t feature a lot of country music here, but I have certainly sprinkled it in on occasion. It has to grab my ear and get me motivated, much like any song I feature. If you can’t tell the groove and vibe going on here, well then you might need some serious smelling salts and a few heater blankets to wake you up. In terms of what country is morphing into I’d say this is borderline southern rock – yet there’s that twangy vocal happening. Hopefully I’m not offending Randy when I say that he gives me that Jeffrey Steele vibe on this tune. I could easily imagine this song hitting the country or country rock charts in a big way (if there are country rock charts). Perfect for that backyard gathering where you’re partying and having fun.
Now, think about this for a moment. What you’re listening to is considered a rough demo. I can think of a whole lot of artists that would kill or die to sound like this for a release. It’s got that head-bobbin groove bounce thing that I was talking about yesterday. See, like I said, I’m a sucker for it – genre doesn’t matter.
One would hope that in person Randy is just as humble and cool as he comes off in his messages. I’m always excited when an artist is honored to be featured. That never gets old. It makes me smile and in this case is giving you a sneak peak into what will hopefully be single from Randy in the future. It certainly deserves to be on iTunes if you ask me, or even on a record. Keep an eye on Randy. I imagine you’ll be adding him to your iPod soon.
