Going down to the wire. That’s how it seems things happen for so many things for the holidays. Heck for all kinds of things at any time. I mentioned yesterday about my auto. Well, as of this morning it’s still in the shop. Seems it’s in need of a recall. The recall led to more things that needed to be fixed. It’s like one giant snowball. It’s almost three times its original fee. What a pain in the butt. Thanks Land Rover. Actually a lot of the repairs being done really did need to be done. I’ve driven the car hard. And I’ll be driving it hard later today if all goes well.
I’ve planned to be leaving town today to go hang with family. However, it might happen tomorrow instead. Not that it would be terrible, just that it would be cutting things closer than I’d want. In the meantime, I’ve been holed up in the studio discovering yet another thing I mentioned yesterday. That is a scary thing about DVD-R’s. They’re highly unreliable. I’m terribly disappointed. Fortunately I’ve discovered a way to recover the files. Which is fortunate as it allows me to get the precious data back. The problem is, it’s time consuming, and a major pain in the butt to have to deal with. Thus once I get the data back I consider the DVD useless. At this rate, it’s over 60% in data failure rate for DVD-R’s. That’s a pretty horrendous failure rate.
What makes it worse is that I’m using quality DVD-R’s, and the burning program that burned them also verified them. To me that means it should be perfectly fine. Now I have a new concept to my archiving. Hard drives, then to burn 2 DVD’s as backup. But with an extra step where once they’re burned and verified, I then have to put them in the computer and download the data. If it doesn’t work I toss it out and burn again. That’s the only way to be absolutely sure.
I will say that I have some old Apple branded DVD-R’s. They had a slightly better rate of about 40% failure. Still, in this modern age, a DVD-R should not have a failure rate over 1%. Even that is high to me. Don’t you think?
With big events I’m sure there is prep work and planning that goes on all the way until the event occurs. Especially it’s a massive gathering of people, i.e. a mass or throng. If there is a time of year for such gatherings, now is that time. Church masses, family masses, sports masses like the up coming Superbowl (or is it Super Bowl?), and such. Even movies enjoy more masses. In fact, tomorrow I’d like to be one of the masses to gather for National Treasure 2 Book of Secrets. Call me cheesy but I enjoyed the first one.
Thus it’s that gathering in mind that I choose today’s song. It’s a very earthy version of the tune with lots of guitar layers. So enjoy!
