The days to the 25th are counting down. Less daylight hours in the Northern Hemisphere too. What does that mean?!? Well, actually it means nothing has changed. The earth still revolves around the sun and seasons still change. Mother Nature is still hard at work at her job.
Yesterday I got to see a friend of mine hard at work at one of his jobs. He’s one of the creators behind the podcast known as: The Radio Adventures of Doctor Floyd. They did a live event that was taped as this years Christmas episode. It was fun to watch it. There was a good audience of parents and their little kids in attendance. In addition they had a few special guests that were fun to watch. Chuck McCann, Moira Quirk, and the puppeteering of Swazzle. It was a good time.
From there I met up with a friend of mine to trade a copy of S.O.S. magazine for my hard drive of all my files for the Christmas project. I’ll be spending some time backing it up to DVD’s to have additional backups of the files. One can never be too careful. For important music files I always make 3 backups and keep them in different locations.
Then I got a phone call from my friend Laurie who wanted me to join her and her friends for dinner. Pizza was what I was planning to make for myself, but she mentioned sushi and of course I can’t pass that up. So I decided to join her and her friends Christine Devine and Christine’s fiance Sean McNabb. Two very cool and down to earth people. Of course Sean and I got to talking music. So that was fun. Sean is a veteran musician who plays bass for several bands you should know from 80’s fame. Christine is the anchor for the evening news on Fox. Fun stuff.
It was a sushi place I had never been to up on the top of Beverly Glenn. How bizarre two nights in a row spent on the hill around Beverly Glenn. The sushi was good too. Good company + good food = good times.
Christmas and what it means to people. Hmmm. I’m sure it’s different for everyone. I’m also betting it changes based on age too. Though I’ve already touched on that in recent posts. I think the best part is spending time with people and having good conversations. It’s an additional bonus if you get a chance to be near a resort and can do some skiing. At least for me. I can’t have what happened last year ever happen again. I didn’t get a chance to ski. Devastating is the only word I can use. First time since I’ve been skiing that I didn’t get to go. That can no longer happen ever again. Unless global warming changes the climate so much that there is no more snow.
Anyway, John M is another friend of mine who has a spectacular studio in his house. I mean world class. Talk about having a place to never leave, John has it. John probably spends a lot of time in there. I know I would. Actually, eventually I may very well do that when it comes to doing some recording on my next CD/release. What artist doesn’t spend time writing in such nice environments and doesn’t do a Christmas song. Not John M. I’m sure it was written long before he got his studio. But that doesn’t mean the song can’t have an annual life right?
I think it’s also the first Christmas song I’ve featured here on Single of the Day that actually has a video as well. How about that? Huh? John has a signature 12-string sound. A whole lot of the songs I’ve seen him do in a live setting get the 12-string treatment. Of course having a beautiful Taylor 12-string guitar doesn’t hurt. Though it’s not the guitar he’s using in the video. Must have been done before he got his Taylor.
John’s message is pretty clear. Give of your heart and not your wallet. At least that’s what I’m gathering. That is how I’m connecting it to being with people and having a good time without an effort of business or cash. What’s your message for Christmas?
