It’s party time. Or at least it’s the time of year where a lot more parties seem to occur. Especially in the land of LA where multiple people have parties on the same evening. Then it becomes a position of who’s do you go to. Sometimes you party hop. Attend each party for a set amount of time to make an appearance. That can be rough and makes it harder to enjoy any one party.
Last night was one such night where I was invited to several functions. This time around I decided it would be more advantageous to pick one and hang. Since it was a friend of mine’s birthday whom I hadn’t seen in a couple of years, I decided that’s the party to go to. In fact it ended up being a party where I saw several people I hadn’t seen in a couple of years.
It was held in a house up Beverly Glen Canyon. The view was actually quite spectacular. I was amazed. I didn’t think views like that existed on the valley side of Los Angeles. Another fun aspect of the house was all the memorabilia hanging on the walls. Several mega stars were managed by the owner of the house. One of the attendees were enamored with one particular artist and so a little joke was played. Where we started talking like said star was going to be making an appearance at the party. Of course it becomes believable because of the stuff in the house and people yappin’ about it. However we didn’t take it too far, that would be mean.
Today I figured I go diggin through my archives and pull out something that probably still plays on Utah radio. It’s a little known band that was once fronted by Jeff Scott Soto called Eyes. Talk about a difficult band to find online. I guess their label really didn’t put much effort behind them. I don’t really know much of the specifics of why. I do realize that this style didn’t survive on the popular charts past the 80’s. However, I do know there are parts of the U.S. and the world where it’s still played on a daily basis. One such area is Utah. Whenever I visit the ‘rents I can turn on the radio and be blasted with an era gone bye.
That doesn’t mean the music sucks. One thing I like about this particular song (yes, it does have a video that I found on youTube you can watch it) is that it’s about having a good time. What’s wrong with music posing as a way to get the spirits up and having a ball? In this case I believe the video was on a former MTV staple known as the Headbangers Ball. But it is a Sunday’s Child for the sheer fact the label is not smart enough to put it out digitally. I’m sure there is still a market for this, and they’re losing revenue.
I don’t think the idea has changed much. Guys still chase girls. Girls still chase guys. Some guys chase guys and some girls chase girls. Sometimes they chase each other. It’s all in good fun, or at least it should be. Especially at this time of year.
Additionally in looking for the song, I found that the title Calling All Girls is actually quite popular with several bands out of the 80’s. Even one huge band – Queen. Anyway, have a fun day chasing whomever your in tune with chasing.
(** Disclaimer: If Eye’s label decides to wake up and chase me, I’ll have to chase the audio off the server. The post will remain as a reminder to have a good time. **)
