Part of my whole point yesterday with meetings has to carry over to today. I’m working on regaining the control of my life that I had lost. Do I sound like a rockstar complaining about being signed to a horrible recording contract? Yikes. No, this is more or less in the lines of correcting issues that got out of hand. The good thing is, I feel good about the meeting I had yesterday. I don’t know yet if it will produce the result I need, but at least I got a vibe I liked. Hmmm. That’s reminiscent of a poker tell isn’t it? Pro poker players spend time not only knowing the math of the cards they play, but also in determining what other players are holding.
That’s an element of the game you can’t get from playing others via the internet. You can see their faces, their bodies, their demeanor. All of that comes into play when playing live. The better you are at reading a player, the more equipped you become in being able to separate them from their money. That’s not to say it’s fool proof. There’s one element of the game you can’t get past, someone misplaying a hand and getting lucky. Unfortunately it happens. But you do what you can to prevent that. Why? So that someone isn’t getting something for nothing from you. You generally want a player to make such mistakes, more often than not they’ll pay you off big.
I think that’s part of the idea going on in today’s selection. James even mentions money, albeit it’s in the midst of a relationship going sour. At least that what’s I’m divining. Getting past the lyrics we’re jumping into a very lively paced juke. Lots of upbeats. Very bluegrassy in vibe. Yet, I’m still leaning on it being folk. A very lively, upbeat ditty. Ditty, that’s a good term for this song. It’s a nifty little ditty.
A porch somewhere in the heartland is the image I’m drawing in. Somewhere amongst the little pink houses of Melloncamp. Only a little farther off the beaten path. Not a bad thing. Especially when it’s time to hunker down and start thinking indoors. The key to staying warm is thinking of warm places. What warmer place is there than a summer afternoon on your porch plucking away at a mandolin? Go James go.
The true moral is, you get nothing when you give nothing. Go create value by giving some value – like James has.
