When your chips are down and the time has come, I’m thinking it’s time to run; run to Amsterdam. Whoa, that almost sounds like a lyric for a song. Hmmm, if I decide to expound upon that I’ll certainly have to credit where the inspiration came from.
Meetings. It’s still a great way to conduct business. Live human contact rather than a window of computer blips and graphics. Much like music. I can sit in a studio and create from now until the cows come home. But it’s the act of live performance and interaction with an audience that really brings it home. Wouldn’t you agree? That’s what I’ve been up to today. Live meetings. Working on tying up business stuff to make sure 2008 does not turn into what 2007 did.
Since the first time I put Jenny up on Single of the Day, I’ve noticed she’s had some remarkable success. I think that’s absolutely fantastic. I remember enjoying the time I met her. The first post I did talked about how she and another woman, Amy Speace, were on tour together doing the coffeehouse circuit around the country. I heard about them through another friend who knew them directly. Thus I was one of the few people that showed up at the Los Angeles show they did.
Jenny has a knack for weaving nice melodies with shifting rhythms. Much like some of the stuff I do. However we’re miles apart in approach. It’s good to know that the simplest of elements are all that’s needed to still be original. There’s only so many notes out of 12 and only so many rhythms that people will find interesting to listen to. When you think about it like that it’s insane that there is so much music in the world. While only a small portion ever seems to sound original. The fact that anything can sound original after a couple hundred years of the same tools is a testament to the power of music. Isn’t it?
How are your year end festivities shaping up? Will you be going to explore Amsterdam?
