Last night I went to see American Gangster. Haven’t heard of it? It’s based on a true story about a black man who became a true gangster. Talk about slick. Buying drugs from the source, getting the American army to transport it, then selling it direct on the streets of New York. Wow.
It’s set in the 70’s. What’s amazing is that they seemed to have captured exactly what New York looked like from that era. I’m not sure how they achieved that, but it’s awesome. Without giving much away about the film, I will say it’s great. I really enjoyed it. If I were you, I’d make it a point to go see American Gangster.
In the spirit of the movie and the era it’s set in, I have decided to pull out the Fallen Friday tag on Kool and the Gang. They are one of those bands that has to be included with anything that defines disco and 70’s dance clubs. Of course the true inspiration of this song goes to the genius who invented the idea of ladies night at a club.
I know I’ve heard my fair share of this song in the not so distant past. Mostly due to my buddy Jeff Scott Soto who was the lead singer for the Boogie Knights for several years. Ladies Night was a primary requirement pretty much at every show I ever attended. So get out your boogie shoes, get ready for the hustle because it’s Ladies Night and the feeling is right!
Go get it!
