Persistence, single-mindedness, desire, vision, dreams. These are things that are part of the qualities of successful people. Lots of my friends and my mom would say I’ve definitely got some of that going in my world. Why would I be thinking about that? Last night I pulled out a book I bought a couple of years ago based on a strong recommendation by Derek Sivers. That book is called ‘Think and Grow Rich’ by Napoleon Hill. I remembered reading it when I got it and enjoying the book. Not long ago Derek suggested I pull it back out to read it again. I spaced on it.
After the time spent in Vegas I decided it was high time I refocus myself once again. Put some new light in my brain. Thus I got in about 30 pages. I remember a lot of the text. This time around though, I’ve also got The Secret & What The %*&^# Do We Know in my databanks as well. They all fit into the same category and the three of them have a very common thread. I also heard about another book called Fish! that is supposed to be much like the three I mentioned. I heard about it from one of the other people who were hooked into the trip. So once I finish off Mr. Hill’s book, I will get myself to Borders and obtain Fish!. This ties nicely into the lyrical content of today’s song choice by Bob Cushing.
It’s a story about a performer who’s journey through life has hit obstacles, but overcame them to continue on towards the goal of fame and fortune. The only thing I missing is the grand payoff in the story. Could it be a work in progress? I’m thinking it is and that it’s more of an autobiographical song for Bob. I don’t know him other than via a digital connection. See Bob is also a fellow member of Just Plain Folks (JPF). He maintains a pretty good presence at the JPF website. Often has good things to say of others and speaks his mind.
The good thing about the song is that the instrumentation fits very nicely into an Americana Rock vibe. Mix that with a hint of a southern comfort splash and you’ve got Bob. It’s cleanly recorded and you can hear all the parts in the song with very little trouble. That’s a good thing in this instance.
Actually when I think about it, there’s probably a really large clip of musicians that could very well take this song to be their anthem. Like the new friend I met via Vegas. He gave up music years ago, but is looking to get his material back out into the world. Thus I pointed him in the direction of CD Baby so he could put it on iTunes. He’s certainly been through a journey. I’m betting that Bob has too, based on this song. So pull up a porch, crack open a beer and slurp away until the sun goes down. Once you’ve had that moment to relax, then it’s time to focus again. Set a deadline and stick to it. I give you until the end of the song to go purchase it at iTunes or CD Baby! Help make him his next best thing.
