It’s a little dark this morning. It’s overcast and cooler. What a good thing for the current state of fire ridden california. I did read that one of the fires flared up again, though I would think with today’s cooler air and possible showers it would be easy to get on top of it all.
I had a long day of nothing yesterday. I did get a phone call about some business stuff. More promises, to which I let go in one ear and out the other. At the end of it all I ended up going to see the new Steve Carell movie “Dan In Real Life”. I happen to like Steve Carell, at least based on The 40 Year Old Virgin. I also like Dane Cook. To put it mildly the movie is damn good. It’s not an all out comedy as one would expect. I have no idea what the numbers are in terms of people going to see it. I also can’t really imagine why they’d release a movie like this in the midst of Halloween. Hell, it’s odd I’m even talking about it on a day where most people are going to be going to dead men parties. Myself included.
Touching. Is the best way I can describe the movie. There is humor. Would have been even more ironic if it had a Halloween reference in it.
This song is like the movie. It’s not a balls to the wall ‘hit’. It’s a connected introspective type thing. I like Rachael. Her vocal has an air of breath to it that is different, something in the timbre that is unique. Rachael makes dark seem very cool. That’s not easy to do, but she does it in style. In a way of simplicity that still holds me with rapt attention.
Don’t we all spend some time thinking about that which might have been?
We don’t always understand is why people do the things they do. That’s beauty and ugliness of human behavior. I can’t imagine how a psychologist can pretend to understand why people do the things they do. There’s too much chaos in how people make decisions, and generally it only works in their minds as to why they do what they do. Ok, I’m getting to out there, time to go deal with my day.
p.s. – Juliette Binoche is an attractive older woman (she’s in Dan In Real Life).
(** Disclaimer: If Rachael’s label decides to give me a reason why I shouldn’t showcase the song, I’ll have to do something about the audio. The post will remain to show that there are no reasons. **)
