Delegation. Prioritizing time. Those are two elements to people that always seem to get things done. In my daze of being in a permanent holding pattern, I’ve often seen in myself that I’m not constantly on the go. Many elements that I used to just do have been sitting stagnant for a good long time now.
Break. Change. Move.
Since I’m getting restless with all the waiting. And mind you it’s been a long damn time. I’ve done little things to start to get back to my normal go-getting self. More from a physical standpoint. Mentally I’ve been doing tons of writing, well over 40 new songs in 2007 alone. Physically though, I had been slacking. Especially in the heat of summer. Now that it’s starting to cool off my physical activity is starting to go up. I’m running farther. I’m lifting more weights and I’m getting my mind back around an attack mode.
Part of that delegation is me delegating some of my own time. I’m working on making a point of exploring for music again. I started last night with 30 minutes. That’s what I was going to start devoting at least once a day. It ended up going about 45 minutes. But I think I can hold myself to 30 minutes for the time being. In that 30 minutes I came across several bands that I contacted about future featuring on Single of the Day. One such artist is one you’re listening to right now. It was that quick.
My reasoning is that I started to drift too far away from my original intent of the blog. To showcase mostly unknown artists. If you’ve been following lately, you’ll have noticed that a lot of my picks have been stuff that has already been in the public eye in wide spread media. Mostly because it fills a lot of my iTunes library. Thus I’m refocusing back on my original goal and I feel good about it.
The interesting thing about today’s song is that it’s called Standing Stones, yet the music itself has a large sense of movement. I haven’t had a really electronic song on in a while and with the update to Logic Studio (Logic 8) that I recently got, I know I’m going to be exploring using synths and other interesting noises created by software in my productions.
In addition to the movement, I’m enjoying the really big sense of space that is being created by several of the sounds within the song. Even with the little listening environment I have on my laptop I can hear how huge it sounds. If sounds jump out of a 15″ Macbook pro like that, then I know that later today I have to throw the mix up on my Genelecs in my studio. If for nothing else but to take it all in. How can you not like music that surrounds you and allows you to sink into it?
The mood is now set for my day. How about yours? The whole CD contains songs that capture you with sounds. Get it. Don’t want the CD? Head to the iTunes link. Don’t want iTunes, you can now get full albums via download from CD Baby. The quality is higher than that of iTunes and there’s no DRM. Plus more of the purchase price goes directly to the artist. Future Daze of Metal Beat will thank ya for it.
