The other night I went to see a movie called In The Shadow Of The Moon. Chances are if you are outside of the United States you haven’t heard of this movie. Heck, even if you are inside the United States you probably haven’t heard of this movie. Either way it’s an interesting documentary. It probably has more significance for someone who is an American mostly because it directly relates to NASA.
The movie contains several of the key astronauts who were part of the Apollo missions. As a viewer we get to see and hear about their experiences of having gone to the moon. It’s an emotional roller coaster to say the least. Listening to these men talk about their dreams and what it was like to be a part of that situation. One of the astronauts reminded me of my Dad not only in his look but also in his demeanor.
Unfortunately, there is one astronaut who did not participate. That would be the very first person to have ever set foot on the moon. Hopefully you know who that this. If not, his name is Neil Armstrong.
In honor of that movie and those astronauts have chosen probably the most familiar song in pop music, Space Oddity. Like Mondays choice this version of the song is really strongly in comparison with the original. Also like Mondays choice this version is not available on iTunes. However unlike Mondays choice this can be found on CD. So the link for this CD will take you to Amazon, and the link for the song will take you to iTunes.
One of the key players in Saigon Kick was the guitar player Jason. Turns out that a few years ago my friend Jeff Scott Soto and I were in Las Vegas when Jason was getting married. Jeff and Jason were pretty good friends. Jason had played guitar in Jeff’s band Talisman. For me I was just meeting Jason. Jeff and I went to the wedding and I ended up as a witness and the photographer. It was a small Las Vegas wedding and it was my first. An experience I’ll never forget. Just as those astronauts are not likely to forget their trip.
(** Disclaimer: If Saigon Kick’s label decides to send me to the moon, I’ll have to push the audio into a black hole. The post will remain to show that I appreciate events that happened before I was born. **)
