Ah the beauty of film, or rather digital film. Taking pictures is getting super easy. For the adventurer and the vacationer it’s a blessing. You can snap, snap, snap, snap. Picture after picture, to the point where maybe you’re not experiencing the place your at, but rather looking through the lens…
I took some time yesterday to sort through about 300 pictures from my trip this past August. Then of course I got the wild hair to create a slideshow/movie of them to share back with my family. Thus I spent time color correcting a ton of pictures, deleting a few duplicates, then figuring out a nifty way of putting them in order. Mash up a few transitions, plop some audio underneath it all and export to share. Oh the ease with which it can be done thanks to Apple and the Mac.
The only question becomes, will the rest of the family appreciate it?
I don’t generally tend to take a lot of photographs personally as I usually like to just be in the moment. However, with my mom and my sister owning these really nice tricked out digital SLR cameras, it sure looks like fun to snap pictures. I think when the tour finally gets underway, I’ll have to get a snazzy camera to snap a few pictures from my point of view. I’ve also got a line on a video/photographer who wants to join us on the road. So there’ll still be pictures not from me.
Speaking of pictures… This here is a song from one of those Hair Metal bands of the 80’s. Def Leppard has had a very lengthy career based mostly on their early work. Not a bad thing, if you know the material you’d know why. It’s anthemic and fun. Plus they were from England. That usually puts the band as instantly cool.
They’ve had their fair share of issues as well. The drummer lost an arm in a car accident (I think) and had to relearn how to play drums with a specially designed kit. Then they lost their main songwriter and guitarist. Still they trudge on. Troopers really. I finally got to see them live last summer. It was fun being back stage seeing it all from the sidelines. Even more cool when my buddy Jeff Soto was invited out to sing with the band on one song. Would have been a good time to have a good camera to snap some shots of that.
They sounded great. The audience was eating it up and the show was good. Is it any wonder why they’ve lasted? The one thing I think they ought to do is thank Mutt Lange who turned them into the musical superstars they became.
