It’s a simple concept. You hit the floor/ground and you take your pains and get back up. Do what it is you were attempting to do again. You modify your approach a little bit and go again. It’s those little modifications that become the lessons. Eventually they add up to expertise and you stop falling so much. Sometimes those acts of falling down are metaphorical yet the lessons are still the same.
Confidence gurus tend to make analogies to such events where people exert effort to do something, fall down, then get up and do the exact same thing. The end result ends up being the act of falling down time and again. Over time it becomes a futile exercise and usually results in quitting.
That’s probably something I’ve picked up on pretty well, the art of little modifications.
I got wind of Kelsey from Kelsey herself. So of course I have to take a moment to listen. I was given a link to her myspace page and the first song to come out was Fall Down. I dug it right away, there’s a nice ethereal quality that harks of Sarah McLachlan mixed with the vibe of Tim Corley. Here’s an artist who certainly has a good base for a career in music. She was 17 last year, so I’m going to guess she’s 18 now. There are some rough edges in the songs & performances, but hey they’re a great start.
I have the feeling Kelsey will continue to grow with her writing. And as long as she continues to examine those rough spots and improve upon them, there’s no doubt she’ll become a powerhouse writer. She’s also getting great reviews from her live performances, thus I’m sure I’d happy to be backstage watching, or possibly sharing the stage. She didn’t send a link for any video, but maybe she’ll chime in here if there is something available on YouTube or Myspace where you can watch her tickle the keys of a piano.
My prediction is that she’ll write some great material and become a recognizable artist on a much bigger level. Eventually she’s gonna get onto things like iTunes. Until then, visit her current music links. Leave a little note here to let her know what ya think.
