Who would have thought that the weatherman would have been able to predict a winter storm coming early. And by a week no less. That’s right the first winter storm for southern California has hit. Dumping tons of rain after a period of the driest episode in about 130 years according to the news. Go figure. The prediction was that the storm would inch it’s way in. Which is kinda what it did. Slowly bringing more precipitation. Flooding the streets out in the neighborhoods.
I’m sure my lawn will be quite happy. A little break from all the sun and getting a bunch more quench for it’s thirst than it would usually get. That would probably make any plant life happy. At the very least a lot of plant life.
This kind of storm normally doesn’t hit until about February or March. Yet it’s mid-September and booyah we’re getting soaked. I suppose it’s weird that I’m actually happy for the change in the weather. Remember that in Los Angeles there’s two seasons, or rather two types of days weather wise – sunny, or rainy. Not much for in between here.
Since I’ve been on a recent hard rock kick I’ll finish this week off with one of those huge anthem type songs. Guns ‘n Roses. What a history that band had eh? Internal conflicts, off-the-cuff rock, huge egos, sloppy, attitude, neurotic episodes, lack of consideration for fans, and more. It’s no wonder that it’s probably unlikely they’ll ever make a comeback. Oh, never say never. Hell if Aerosmith could do it, can’t G’N’R? Possibly.
I was young when I first saw the spectacle of this song being performed. It left an indelible mark on me. I believe it was for the MTV awards, back when MTV actually played videos and music. There was a huge stage, an orchestra, and two pianos. Hey, if you’re gonna do it – do it big right? That was certainly one thing Gun’s fans could count on. It was either go big no matter the mess, or go home disappointed. At least that’s how it’s been reported in the tabloids. Either way, this was one of those songs where Guns ‘N Roses really hit the mark. And even though it’s about a soured relationship, I’m connecting it to it’s literal title and the current weather.
Since you might be indoors, go buy it for your enjoyment.
(** Disclaimer: If Gun’s label decides to leave me standing in the cold november rain, I’ll have to wash that audio off the server. The post will remain to show that there is good in change and rain. **)
