In an effort to see if I improve the process of doing these Single of the Day blog posts, I’m making use of speech recognition software called iListen. Since typing is second nature for doing this type of posting it’s actually kind of weird that I can sit here and talk it out and the computer will type the text. I feel like I am learning to crawl before I can run again. The reason is, my ideas seem the flow faster with my fingers flying across the keyboard. Now with being able to speak this stuff out, it seems that I have to stop processing the idea mid sentence in order to make sure that what I’m saying is going to make sense in a sentence. I guess what I’m trying to say is that it’s a little bit weird/awkward speaking something out and then having to look back at the computer screen to make sure that the computer didn’t screw it up and that I’m making sense.
Being as this is the first post that I’ve done using this type of software, it’s actually probably going to take me a lot longer to do this post that had I typed it out. However, as I get used to using the software I suppose it will actually become a lot quicker. Especially when the program learns my speech patterns. Right now I’m still going through the process of figuring out how these voice commands work and then double checking to make sure that when it does type something, it does it correctly.
So, it would seem that I’m sitting here pausing my brain to make sure that the next thing that I say continues to makes sense in a coherent fashion. Although you’re not seeing process that is going on to make this happen I can tell you right now that it is making more mistakes than it should. I’m going to give it a few days at least, maybe a week to see if this is really going to be more beneficial for me in typing out these posts. The main reason is because the long part of doing these posts, it is the actual typing of it.
In light of thinking about trying something new, today’s song is exactly that. Not only from the fact that I don’t normally post a lot of electronic instrumental music, but also because the artist that I’ve chosen wasn’t really versed in getting me a copy of the song in the appropriate format. Fortunately he got it worked out and got me a copy of the song. Thus, as I’m stumbling through being able to create posts in this fashion I’m also spending time listening to today’s song.
How often do you do something new, something that makes you feel like you’re a beginner? I guess what it is, is that when I’m typing my brain is able to process the information as quick is my fingers can move, which is roughly about 75 words a minute. However, most people can rattle off sentences pretty darn quick. Thus when I’m saying things a little faster and the computer’s sitting there recognizing what I’m saying it’s making more mistakes than it really should. But now I’m starting to repeat myself as to what I was setting earlier.
Getting back to the song… Decapolis came recommended to me by a previous artist who is also an instrumental electronic musician. Usually when I ask an artist to recommend somebody else after they’ve been featured on Single of the Day, the recommendations are solid. That makes my job of finding new music a whole lot easier. Also, I get recommendations from from you the avid reader. Case in point, Mutemath.
Decapolis reminds me a little bit of Jan Hammer. Especially, if I combine that thought with the hint Of Nine Inch Nails and the Axl Foley theme from Beverly Hills Cop. Maybe you have a different combination of artists they you think would make a better representation, do tell.
As usual, I’m going to tell you that if you love the song buy it!
As for me I’m now going to edit this Post so that the voice recognition program can learn to better understand me. Course you won’t see that process, you get to see the end result. Which means you won’t see all the typos and screwed up sentences that I had to go back in and fix.
