Got the bags packed and I’m ready to roll. It’s all coming down to a document coming from the IRS. Gotta love that. The organization that loves to collect money for the government or rather the bankers, can hold you hostage. Do a little study of history and you’ll find that the whole concept of federal income tax is apparently illegal. There’s no law, not on any books, but they can make your life a living hell. Welcome to my nightmare. No, I’m still being a good citizen, I pay the taxes. Now when I’m in the midst of everything for getting my funding together for touring and such, they’re taking their sweet ass time getting me a document I need. I’ll say it again, gotta love that.
One of my earliest memories of music is Elton John. I remember some of the artwork from his album covers. Mostly because my dad did lots of art in those styles when vinyl was around. In fact I believe he did some famous covers, as well as a Rolling Stone Magazine cover that featured Elton. In fact I know he did. I know because while I was in Park City this past August my dad was the feature artist at the Iron Horse Gallery. We got a private showing in the gallery while I was there. I remember one section had roughly 6 images of musicians, all of which I believe appeared in Rolling Stone or were covers, and Elton was one of them. You might find it weird that I wouldn’t know all of my dad’s art, but there’s an insane amount of it. I’m sure there’s some things I still haven’t seen.
Like my dad, Elton has an insane amount of work. There aren’t many musicians that are as entertaining or as talented. This is a live cut of a song that just sticks in your head. Elton did all of those massive hits as a co-write. His word man is Bernie Taupin. Elton is the music man. Elton as I said is a great entertainer. I know I’ve seen tapes of him dressed in some of the craziest outfits ever. All that and he can run around a stage, play a piano, and sing like a bird. It’s amazing. If there is an artist to emulate for being a great entertainer, there’s not many who are/were better.
There’s really no way to do justice to his entire career. He’s had so many hits it’s mind numbing. As you sit and listen, realize that there is no autotune, there are no backing tracks, nothing special beyond a man, a piano, and a great fucking song. Though no one has yet to actually take a trip to Mars yet. Thus the lyrics have to be metaphorical for taking long trips. But the melody is so strong and beautiful that it slays you. I can’t say anything more than if you don’t have it in your collection you need to change that.
