Last night was a blood red moon. I’m not sure if that is a sign of anything, but it certainly was different to look up into the nighttime sky to see a moon that wasn’t it’s traditional bluish white.

Interesting. Apparently a blood red moon can mean the end of the world if you’re into religious fanaticism. Good thing I’m not. Instead I took it to be a nice change of pace. It could actually be due to the amount of smoke in the sky from large brush fires far off in the distance. At least I think southern california is having some large brush fires. If it was the end of the world then there would be reckoning today, right?
Actually it’s reckoning for me in another way. If things go as planned later today then tomorrow will be an extremely happy post. Until then you’ll have to enjoy today’s musical selection.
There are two key members to A Perfect Circle. The first is the singer. He is known as Maynard. Oh he’s got more name than that, but if you speak of Maynard the singer, most people with any musical knowledge will know exactly whom you utter words about. Maynard’s more famous band would be known as Tool.
The second key member is man who keeps the time. The drummer who goes by Josh Freeze. If there is a drummer in this world whom I want to work with, it’s Josh Freeze. The man comes from another world and on that world all they do is drum. I’ve never seen a drummer who even when he makes a mistake, does it in time. There can be no higher praise that I can give other than I believe his playing is about as perfect as you can get in a human vessel. Yes, I’ve seen him perform live several times. I’m hoping I can hire him for a few songs on my next CD.
I’ve had an old friend tell me they once went to a Tool concert and it changed his life. I’ve not yet seen Tool live. I’m not sure they’re even still doing any work musically. It was because of Maynard and Josh’s talents that I picked up the Mer De Noms CD without ever hearing a note beforehand. That’s how much I trust their talent and integrity. I must admit that there are some tunes on the CD that I’m not keen on. However, the moments of sheer power and genius in the songs I do like, way out weigh those I don’t.
This is one case where getting a couple of powerhouse musicians together actually worked. Often times putting a supergroup together doesn’t work. Lucky for us, this time it did. Because I’m told Tool is life changing, I’ll have to lump A Perfect Circle in with it, strictly because of Maynard. I know that the first time I saw Josh perform live, I nearly left my jaw on the floor of the venue. That’s my reckoning right there.
If you don’t own this CD, you’re a fool who doesn’t appreciate cerebral rock. Change that right now. Reform. Add it to your collection and school yourself. Don’t pass go.
(** Disclaimer: If A Perfect Circle’s label decides to hollow me out, I’ll have to bore the audio off the server bit by bit. The post will remain to show that this should be a major turning point for me. **)
