One can put their foot down on things only so many times. Seems I’ve been doing it more than I normally do, at least this week. I’m working on the things that I can control in a vain effort to regain some sanity on feeling like a human that can accomplish something.
Working on getting something done. That was the subject of a documentary I went to see last night. It’s called “King of Kong” subtitled a fistful of quarters. In case you haven’t heard of it, it’s about the classic arcade games of the 80’s. Specifically about a couple of guys who are chasing the perfect game/score of Donkey Kong.
In all reality it was actually a fun movie to watch. The game was only part of the story. The real crux of it was the man who became champion. The one who finally dethroned the king who had the record high score for nearly 20 years. That’s an awful long time. At first I wanted to like the champion and dislike the challenger. As the movie went on, I began to dislike the champion and root for the underdog. Why? Because the champ isn’t a nice guy. The underdog is a true player and a nice guy to boot. It’s nice that he ended up besting the best. The movie sure makes like of the geeky nature of video gamers. Lots of laughs.
The underlying theme of the underdog was that he is good at so many things but had a difficult time topping the top of anything. Much like getting sent on your way. Hence the connection to the Rusted Root song you’re hearing now. I’m not a huge fan of Rusted Root, but I do dig this particular song. The vibe is cool, the playing and the riff work to great effect here. There’s not much more I can say other than I’m still working on putting my best on the line. Fingers crossed that tomorrow actually results in what I’ve been promised.
(** Disclaimer: If Rusted Root’s label decides I need to be sent away, I’ll have to smash the audio on the server with a hammer. The post will remain to show my appreciation for Donkey Kong. **)
