Yesterday, I spent the afternoon with a bunch of friends chatting, shooting the shit, talking trash, and eating a burger on the plaza at Park City Resort. Actually there wasn’t any trash talking, but it sounded good didn’t it?
It was a weird afternoon. As I walked down to the plaza to meet my friends I experienced something that only seems to happen in Park City when it comes to summer weather. It began to rain as I left the house. Then not even one block down the street it was no longer raining, but I could turn around and see the rain coming down. Though I was now dry. Isn’t that weird? I’ve experienced that several times while growing up in Park City. Most of those experiences were right around the house too. I wonder if the house has some weird magical power over the idea of rain?
The rest of the walk was dry.
After a while a few of us decided to take one of the rides they offer. The old standby is the Alpine Slide and oh the stories I can tell of riding that in summers between school years… Those will have to wait for another time. Instead there was a new Alpine Roller Coaster. I’m not sure roller coaster is the best way to describe the new ride, I think it’s only from last year. But it became the ride of choice for my friends and I. Mostly because the rip ride was closed and we were looking for something different. The rip ride is where you sit in a hammock like seat hanging from a wire and go zipping down the mountain just over the trees at a high speed. It’s quite fun. I’m also going to say that the Alpine Coaster was fun. I never hit the brake, full speed the whole time and no way to leave the track like with the slide. Woo Hoo.
To finish off the afternoon I took in The Bourne Ultimatum. The Bourne series rules. It is my favorite spy series, hands down, bar none. This did not disappoint. It was more of the crafty Bourne and almost seemed even more non-stop. It was intense. However, if you cannot handle hand-held action like in the Bourne Supremacy, you might get motion sickness like a certain girl I know. One thing I will point out though: Do not go see this movie if you have not seen the first two. It will confuse the hell out of you if you don’t know the back story and everything that has happened.
Oh and in relation to the Bourne Ultimatum game that was online right up until the friday start… I was always hot on his trail and ended up with more sightings than the number of days that got played. I don’t know what the grand prize was, or if there was one, however I was disappointed with how they ended the game. Despite that, it was still fun to play and figure out.
Moving on to the music. Today’s choice is an ode to my buddy George Leger III. He’s been telling me about Matthew Good for some time now. I’ve never spent much time attempting to check him out. But now I have. And I’m diggin this song and video. I know it’s not Matthew’s latest, but I don’t think that matters. One thing George mentioned to me, last Tuesday night I might add, is that Matthew is a huge star in Canada. Apparently he can sell out stadiums north of the American border. However, he is still an unknown in the States and likely the rest of a lot of the world.
Could it be this will change? Hmmm, if you’re quick on your toes, you might be able to catch a free track by Matthew Good on iTunes as he is currently the Pick of the Week there. But hurry. Otherwise you’ll be paying for it. As well you should, it’s bad karma to not pay for your music. Got it? Obviously my intent is to get you looking into Apparitions and the album it came from Beautiful Midnight. You can help be the start of a Matthew Good revolution in bringing him to your country.
