Being that I’m in Park City vacationing, visiting friends, and enjoying myself I thought I’d try a little experiment. First off, the song you’re listening to is a demo. Jupiter Bowl is a real place in Park City Utah. It is also the first co-write between myself and Mark Luna. I know I’ve mentioned him here before.
Anyway, I went on a hike yesterday in Sundance up to Stewart Falls. I met up with my friend Lyndsey, and her friend from New Zealand whom I now know as ‘Bandit’. Actually she did tell me his real name, unfortunately after that she kept calling him Bandit and I eventually forgot his name and called him Bandit too. Crap. I hate when I do that. I will likely see him again prior to me leaving town.
I can imagine you’re sitting there saying to yourself “self… why is he called Bandit?” Well here it is. He’s got one arm. A left one. The other, his right, was destroyed in a motorcycle accident. He’s extremely cool. I would even venture a guess that he probably gets asked how he came to have one arm every day, but he didn’t get upset about it. Instead he gave me the story on what happened. Tragic. However, it doesn’t seem to phase him in the least. The cool thing is, I now have a friend in New Zealand for a place to crash and hang when I can get myself there.
As I said we hiked in Sundance. It’s not Park City, and we didn’t end up at Jupiter Bowl. Though it is pretty where we hiked too.
As for the song, I’m excited about it. I enjoyed writing it with Mark. I think it’s quirky, but has a really great quality to it. So, what I’m going to do is over the course of actually finishing the song and calling it done, I will use it for Sunday’s Child entries as Mark and I modify the song closer and closer to completion. So what you are hearing is our first demo that has a good portion of what Mark and I are calling done. However, there are things we are thinking about in terms of the song that are very likely to be changing. Thus it’s not finished yet. In a way, it’s sorta like a long drawn out exploration into the anatomy of writing a song and the steps it goes through in coming to being finished.
Eventually you will hear several versions that will all seem somewhat the same, but each one as it goes will contain variations that I will attempt to explain and why we reached them. Thus this song is not yet available. Please join me in my madness to separate the steps and show what’s happening behind the scenes.
Please feel free to pass some judgement on what you do like or don’t like about the song, and the changes that will be forthcoming.
