Even the smallest light shines in the dark…
That’s a little line from a new movie coming out called The Seeker. When you think about it, that’s fairly profound. Mostly because in full daylight a little light is fairly unrecognizable, but in utter darkness a little light would go a very long way. The main character in the upcoming movie is an early teen kid attempting to understand his world and gets thrust into something a bit more mystical and magical. At least that’s the gist of what I’m getting out of the trailer. It looks like a fun movie.
I also read an article yesterday that told about a surgery where the power went out in the hospital. So the brother of a patient went around gathering up peoples cell phones to bring into the O.R. to give the doctors enough light to finish the operation. How’s that for being ingenious? I find that my cell actually makes a pretty good flash light. Especially when it’s dark out. The same for my laptop. With the brightness that this screen is capable of, it can certainly light up a dark room. Though it would make for an awkward flashlight.
What exactly is the definition of light?
1. something that makes things visible or affords illumination: All colors depend on light.
2. Physics.
a. Also called luminous energy, radiant energy. electromagnetic radiation to which the organs of sight react, ranging in wavelength from about 400 to 700 nm and propagated at a speed of 186,282 mi./sec (299,972 km/sec), considered variously as a wave, corpuscular, or quantum phenomenon.
b. a similar form of radiant energy that does not affect the retina, as ultraviolet or infrared rays.
3. the sensation produced by stimulation of the organs of sight.
4. an illuminating agent or source, as the sun, a lamp, or a beacon.
5. the radiance or illumination from a particular source: the light of a candle.
6. the illumination from the sun; daylight: We awoke at the first light.
7. daybreak or dawn: when light appeared in the east.
8. daytime: Summer has more hours of light.
There are a whole lot more listed in the dictionary. I figured that was a pretty good start though.
Light could also be advice from a friend or a stranger. The question becomes do you accept the light or do you ignore it?
What grabbed me about today’s selection is the rhythm of the intro figure. The pulsing little noises defining the groove. It sorta reminded me of an early Nine Inch Nails type thing. Obviously much more mellow in execution than Trent Reznor would do, but cool none-the-less. Another thing I like about this song is that I feel like I can get lost in the folds of creation. If there was a surround sound version that I could pop on my studio setup and turn up, I imagine I could sit in the center and have the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
In a way it reminds me of a relaxation tape I have that was created for me. Where there’s lots of layers and little messages of positive energy. That could very well be the essence of light. No? I think Jeff has latched onto something with the song. It would be interesting to hear what other offerings he comes up with going in this direction. Much like Zircon, I would also be interested in seeing what kind of video could be created to expound upon the base Jeff has already built.
Don’t have enough relaxing music? Well you’ll have to add this to your collection. Do you feel more at ease already now that you’ve heard the song and you’ve gotten this far with the post already?
My God this is so beautiful. It makes you feel relaxed and that you are one with the universe. It makes your soul want to fly.
