That’s my first question today, Has Tuesday died?
What exactly would that mean? Interestingly in Greek culture Tuesday is considered a downer in history as it signifies the fall of an empire. Could that be the meaning behind it?
Maybe it could mean something else. Before the advent of iTunes and other instant gratification, Tuesday’s were the day of the week when new music came out. Actually if you still pay attention to major releases, I believe they still hit stores on Tuesdays, including iTunes. Does anyone really care about that though? Now you can get it without traveling to a store and standing around in line with a bunch of like-minded music freaks.
No, today releases for all kinds of things can be on any given day. The biggest gadget release in probably the last 50 years was the iPhone. It was released on a Friday and at 6 p.m. no less. That’s a really odd time to release a product that is likely to have some tech support needs.
For some people Tuesday is an even more stressful time of the week because the weekend is long gone and there’s still the rest of the work week to go before the next weekend. Being that I pretty much work at any given time on most any day, I’m not sure I fit that statistic, however, if I had a 9 to 5 job I would probably fit that like a glove.
Cat Stevens had some pretty darn popular music. I actually remember my dad taking me to an animation festival as a small kid. I clearly remember some of those animated shorts. One of them had some Cat Stevens music. I think Moonshadow was one of them, but if I’m not mistaken this was in there as well. Yikes, that’s kinda scary that I don’t remember the soundtrack to an animation I saw as a kid. Maybe Tuesday’s Dead represents the parts of the brain that hold memories you’re unable to access reliably anymore. That would make sense.
I think that I wouldn’t want people to know that I can’t remember something. So who forget to tell me on Monday that I wasn’t supposed to inform you I forgot something as a kid? Wait… Who told tomorrow that Tuesday’s Dead… That would be Sunday. Because tomorrow = Monday on Sunday. Aha, now I’m getting somewhere. Could it be some sort of weird religious thing? Hmmm. That’s quite possible. Especially given Cat Stevens well known abandonment of music.
What I can’t understand is that he had some insane talent for writing really catchy and unique songs. Then poof decides nope, I can’t do this anymore, I’m off to search for other meaning in my life. Changes his name, rids himself of all worldly stuff and moves to another country to convert to another religion. Unfortunately it’s marked him for life. I’ve heard stories that it’s even caused issues with him wanting to travel to the U.S. I guess the government here doesn’t take to kindly to famous people famous in religions they’re not familiar with.
Rumor has it that Cat Stevens is returning to music, under his new name Yusuf Islam. Actually it’s not so much as a rumor, it’s quite true. I’ve yet to hear any of the new music, but believe me, because my parents pounded his original Cat Stevens stuff in my head growing up that I will be interested in getting my hands on his new stuff. Unfortunately I will always relate him to Cat Stevens. Probably because it was ingrained in me in the womb. It’s part of my DNA in that respect. Much like the Beatles would be too. No the Beatles won’t be Cat Stevens, but watching any one of them reminds me of something they started as.
If you’re not familiar with Cat Stevens, why? How could you not love this man and his music. Remember music transcends all. Great music is just that, great. Isn’t that what this is supposed to be about here in my little corner of the world wide web?
(** Disclaimer: if Cat/Yusuf or his label decides they want to kill my Tuesday, I’ll have to break the audio off it’s server support. The post will remain to hopefully gain insight about Tuesday and why it might be dead. **)
