Welcome to another Fallen Friday edition of Single of the Day.
Today, I’m going to rant a little. I bought a new router yesterday that was for Wireless 802.11n. I figure what the hell, my laptop is capable of higher wireless speed and since I’m doing some big file transfers to the server in the studio it would be good to have a faster connection to do it. So I purchase a Linksys WRT150N. It’s supposed to give 3x the range and 9x the speed of their 54G series which I current own.
So I get it home get it all setup and first that happens is that it won’t connect to the net. I finally get that sorted and I’m on the net and now it’s time to test the speed of a file transfer on the local network. I drop a file to move over and I’m left scratching my head. It’s going about the same speed as the G version. To make matters worse I’m not getting as stable a connection either. This irks me.
I then spend 2 hours on the phone with someone from India attempting to pass themselves off as an English speaking American with an American name, who his having a hard time doing anything other than reading a script on her computer. You know, I’m all for attempting to save your company a buck or two here and there. But when it comes to customer service and you’ve got a call center in a country that doesn’t really speak English as a first language and they’re only reading from a script, it’s pretty fucked up that I just cost you a two hour phone call.
To make matters worse, the lady is ignoring me when I tell her what the exact problem is. When I ask to talk to a supervisor I get the runaround. So I continue to allow her to waste my time and hers. We tried reseting the router. Changing configuration settings galore. Eventually she’s run out of every option she can muster up from her co-workers and her script. To which I say, that’s unfortunate, I’m going to return the item right now. Click.
Essentially, I don’t recommend the Linksys WRT150N. It does not have 3x the range of their 54G model. It isn’t even 10% faster than the 54G model, which is certainly nowhere close to 9x faster. In fact, I never got it to go faster than the 54G. Thus back to the store I went with the fresh item and receipt. I returned it, when they asked why, I said, well, it doesn’t have increased range and it’s not even 2x faster, let alone 9x faster. So they refunded my money and I stuck with my old wireless router which still works.
Even more fun, I have a media carousel thing that holds all my DVD’s and Data discs. Well, the database got corrupted and one of the DVD’s won’t allow itself to say it’s checked out nor be removed from the library. So I’m probably facing having to eject well over 400 discs and having to recreate the database. ARGH.
ARGH is exactly what some of the band members of Blink 182 were thinking when the leader quit thanks to his wife acting like Yoko. At least for a lot of people, Yoko is the one who seems to get credit for destroying the Beatles. I haven’t a clue if that’s really true, but I’ve heard it so much I just take it for granted. Well the same now can be held for one of Blink’s wives. See, I don’t actually know enough about the band to know which person it was, or who’s wife it was. Needless to say they were riding a wave that few bands get to ride. The had a license to print money and one of the members threw it away. What a waste.
Blink 182 was just getting to the point where their songwriting was really getting classy, light years beyond this early hit you’re hearing right now. In fact, I think my favorite Blink song was ‘Down’. Anyway, because they broke up at the height of their fame, they’ve become a Fallen Friday.
(**Disclaimer: If Blink’s label decides to damn me for telling you to buy this, I’ll have to suppress the audio on the server. The post will remain to remind the readers not to get a 150N router from Linksys. **)
