No it’s not my birthday. It’s actually the birthday of Single of the Day. It’s officially 1 year old today. It’s started a year ago with a song that I had recorded. What a journey it’s been so far. I took a moment to look back over some of the posts and noticed that my concept had grown into a different direction from what I had anticipated. Life has a funny way of doing that doesn’t it?
The first month or so of posts were extremely short and only about the song being playing. Then came a faithful post about a show I had played last year and the incredible night it ended up being with trouble surrounding the tour bus. After that the tone shifted quite a bit. More people started to take notice of the blog. Some of my early fans of the blog have long since gone quiet and have probably forgotten all about it.
In the meantime in the past couple of months and even in the past couple of weeks readership has started to explode. My main hope with that is that it will lead to someone like yourself buying the music you hear because it strikes you in a way similar to the way it strikes me. That it’s really damn good and you can’t live without it. I haven’t quite struck the nerve of getting more than a few people to comment on a post, but I’m sure as readership continues to explode and the more daring I get with my viewpoints or stories around my life, the more it will help you to open up your keyboard to emoting something to share with the rest of the Single of the Day community.
Provided that you actually come to the website to read up on and listen to the music, you will notice something else that is different as well… Single of the Day is wearing some new duds. That’s right the Emperor has some new clothes. If you don’t normally visit the website, I encourage you to do so today to take a gander and leave me a note of what you think of the new look. Does it fit music better now? I hope so.
When it comes to this particular song I will always have the memory of Tokyo Delves in North Hollywood, CA. It’s a sushi restaurant. One that I have frequented many times whilst I’ve lived here in sunny Southern California. If you’ve never heard of Tokyo Delves let me do a little describing. The restaurant is in the side of a building sandwiched between a recording studio and a vintage store. It’s only open for dinner. It’s dark inside. There are flashing lights. Everyone is usually yapping and singing at the top of their lungs because they play loud rock and dance music. They’ve even been known to play some of my music there too. 🙂
The sushi is above average, but the experience is likely to be the most fun you’ll ever have eating sushi. You eat, you drink, you get merry. You dance on chairs, you dance on tables (if you’re bold). The servers do skits. The sushi chef’s do skits too. It’s one giant two hour party. I’m rarely ever known to be less than heavily buzzed when I come out of there. If you can go to Tokyo Delves and not have a great time, then something is seriously wrong with you. Every time I go, someone is celebrating something there. Generally it’s a birthday or a pre-wedding party. Thus this song gets played every time I’ve gone. It’s probably the coolest Happy Birthday song their is.
Leave it to Stevie to come up with a kick ass Happy Birthday song. Have you written one? Is it this cool? Wanna try me for next year?
I love your single of the day. I love how you share your life experience in every blog. You share your love for music and open up a new world to me.
Thanks, I’m glad ya like!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
That’s quite an accomplishment. 😉
