It’s only been about 24 hours and already I’ve got other people who are interested in making the trek from Canada to Mexico with me. Now that I think about it it would be awesome to get about 8 people to make the trek. I think that would be a nice managable number of people for a group effort. Mountain biking across the continental divide, woo hoo! Funny how having extraneous goals can pump you up.
I guess I got a little wound up and I’m starting to go off on things I want to do beyond music. That’s a good one to focus on for the time being. Later today I get to try my hand at recording vocals for one of my songs with a buddy that has been buggin me for a while to produce something I’ve written. It will be interesting to see if he can bring something out in the song that takes it beyond where it already is. We’ll see.
Today’s sound comes to us from out of the city from which I was born, the big apple, otherwise known as New York City. I haven’t been there in a few years so I’m really not sure what the current happenin’ sound is, but this is a great uptempo hop of a number that is jumping out of your speakers right now. At least that’s my opinion. Come to think of it, I wonder if Jared knows Brother Love. I think Brother Love is from New York too. Interesting. I wouldn’t have pegged New York as a pop type town. I remember much darker music last I was there. Then again it’s a big city and there’s probably a ton of sub genres that are all thriving.
I liken Jared Scharff and the Royals as an updated version of something along the lines of say The Cult mixed with something like Tal Bachman and The Police. Is that what I’m thinking? Maybe not the Police. I know there’s some other band I’m thinking of. Hmmm… Who did “I’ll stop the world and melt with you”? I think it was English Beat. If that’s it, I’d say he’s a much more excited version of that band too. Listening to this song I envision that Jared likes to hop around the stage like a mexican jumping bean.
The raw guitar is crashing through loud and clear and on my little listening station, it just smacks ya in the face and rocks ya. Straight up nervous energy rock. I miss this type of stuff. There’s not enough of it. I don’t mean the blasé teen-angst faux “I’m angry” type rock. I mean the I’m ready to take on the world if I can hold it together type of thing. That’s what this represents to me. I like it, so should you. Go buy it now!
“I’ll stop the world and melt with you” was by Modern English. You were close though. English beat sang “Save it for Later” and the lead singer had an extremely unique baratone voice. 😉
Well that’s what I get for not checking credits when renting a movie like Valley Girl. That was the movie it appeared in correct?
Yes, “I’ll stop the world and melt with you” was in Valley Girl – along with many, many other songs. The English Beat were absolutely amazing – a whole different level of music as far as I’m concerned. FYI – since I know it’s a movie you repeatedly enjoy, one of the English Beat’s songs (“Rotating Head”) was featured in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
