Happy Memorial Day to all the American readers and listeners. Chances are you’re outdoors waiting for food to be cooking on a grill. Possibly watching a parade coming down main street in your town. Maybe you’re in Los Angeles attending the 30th anniversary gathering of Star Wars fans. If you’re a vet of a war fought by America, this is your day. We salute you. It’s unfortunate we have to do it in a time when we’re at a war now.
Whatever you’re up to today, live it to it’s fullest.
I’d like to thank Ellis Island for their contribution to American culture with a very Irish tune. I like the marching beat that kicks the tune off. It would be perfect for a parade. I could see people lined down the street picking up each leg mocking a march as the float goes by playing this song. I realize that this type of jig is heavily steeped in Ireland. However, that’s what makes America great, it’s a melting pot. Thus we get a good smattering of different cultures here.
I’m sure many an Irish decendent has fought for our soil and died. Many of them also likely passed through Ellis Island on their way to Boston and other parts of the country. Thus in addition to any vets directly related to our respective families it’s a day for raising our glasses to toast those that have give their lives for us.
