I seriously think I might be from another planet. I mean how many musicians do you know that are also total computer geeks? That’s right, I’m not afraid to admit it, I’m a computer geek when I’m not dealing with music. And today as a computer geek I think I’ve caught a glimpse of the current closest thing to heaven. Apple has announced their new machine the dual quad core Mac Pro. That’s 8 core processors in one machine. I could be lying in a pool of drool right now for all you know. I’ve been holding out on upgrading to a new Mac until they hit the dual quads. Now I’m in need of making the preparations to make the leap.
Here’s what I plan on doing… See I have a studio. I like to be able to record at the highest rate possible, I like to push the capability of the machine. So my next CD will be recorded at at least a 192k/24bit rate. To get all the audio clarity I can. I’m just that geeky. My current CD pushed my previous machine to the limits and people thought I was nuts then.
On the exact opposite of the spectrum we have today’s song by Justin Gordon. It was recorded in a car. I don’t know if Justin used a laptop or just a simple stereo mic into a dat player, but he did a darn fine job at getting a decent vibe with such an unusually space. It goes to show that good music can be made in any environment and still shine through. I have to wonder how he pulled that off though. I’ve tried playing guitar in a car before and it wasn’t all that comfortable to do. On a bus, no problem, in a car well I’m fairly tall and gangly (another reason I’m probably an Alien) and it’s a little cramped in a car with an instrument to be played.
Regardless, I really like the nature of the song. Maybe that’s because it was recorded out in a natural space (other than the car). It reminds me of what a cowboy song would be, only he’s singing about aliens. Too bad the X-Files aren’t still on. He could have probably gotten this song into one of their humor episodes that they did. Oh and yes, I was an avid X-Files fan. It could also be the smokey sound of his voice. Cool is what I think it is and I would love to have that same type of rasp as it seems to give an air of quality to your ability. Or maybe its because he lives in Colorado (there’s something about guys that come from the mountains).
Help Justin develop a larger budget for his next recording by buying this one and telling other friends to do the same.
