Ah, mood. The music’s got it.
Ah, sultry. The voice has it.
Ah, swank. The vibe has it.
Ah, Bach. Wha, wha, what?
Heh, the last reference is to an episode of M*A*S*H where the character of Radar was getting dating advice from Hawkeye. Hawkeye told Radar that if he had to talk about music that he should make a slight gesture with his arm and hand and say “Ahhhhhhhh, Bach”. It was to mean that he knew about great classical music and thus had enough culture to impress the girl. I realize that my recounting the scene or even the gist of the episode really does it no justice. I have no idea what station even runs the re-runs of the show, but if you get the box set (or rent it) you’ll find the episode. Watch it, then you can see that it really is funny in context.
Today’s artist comes straight out of Denmark. One thing I recently learned about Denmark is that it is extremely artist friendly. I was at a networking function a couple of weeks ago and met 10 songwriters from Denmark. Unfortunately they were only in LA for a short time, I was hoping to do a co-write with a couple of them. Anyway, musicians in Denmark receive the highest broadcast royalty rate in the world. That’s pretty amazing considering the size of the country. In all reality its comforting to know that somewhere in the world musicians are appreciated and can make a living. Don’t ya think?
Recently the copyright board and a company called SoundExchange have attempted to start righting some of the wrong in terms of royalty payments here in the states. Hopefully they’ll be able to bring the broadcast world of the States back in line to stop screwing the musicians you love to listen too. It’s a start with working on the Satellite and Internet and other new media, but it won’t come into being fair across the board until they get terrestrial radio in line. Enough about that.
Tina Dico, Tina Dico, Tina Dico. Remember that name. It’s already becoming Star Aparent in Denmark. I think if she gets a good solid hookup here in the U.S. it wouldn’t take long for her to top the charts here too. I enjoyed each song I listened to. It was a pleasure actually. I had to play several of them a few times just to figure out which one I wanted to feature. She’s got a strong songwriting sense just like yesterday’s Maia.
There’s a hint of Peter Gabriel in the arrangement and instrumentation. At least that’s what I hear. Others might tend to hear Coldplay mixed with Fiona Apple or something along that nature. In fact in her homeland of Denmark she has reached the top of charts over the likes of Coldplay and U2. That’s pretty impressive. Not to mention that she’s also won a Grammy already as well. Tina is certainly on her way up. Better catch her now before the curve. Then you can say, hey, I knew about her before she was famous, so there!
