Happy Monday morning. I’m about to head out the door and pound the streets with my feet and some heavy breathing. That’s right I’m going running. I usually do three times a week in the mornings before it gets too blazin hot. Yesterday I spent some time mountain biking in Sycamore Canyon north of Malibu. It was great, not too hot, most of the ride was hidden under the veil of a misty cloud. I ended up pushing my way up a trail that’s nicknamed “Hell Hill”. It gets that from being extremely steep and a bit difficult to ride up.
I needed a little jolt of energy to pump me up out of bed and bonus enough was this little ditty from the Musical Outfits. I came across it about two weeks ago. Out of the speakers comes a hoping guitar line that just oozes energy. Gotta love that. The other great thing about it is the recording. There is something here that most non-signed recording don’t have – space. There is a lot of space in the mix. Little details like that are what set some bands on the higher pedestals.
In fact there’s quite a few little production tricks used in this song that caught my ear. Combine that with the energy of the song and I start to listen over and over. Interestingly enough they went with takes that captured more of the energy than the perfection of the notes. Luckily it’s working for me. Thus it should be working for you too, no?
Time for me to get to that run. May your Monday have some kick to it. Don’t forget to pass some kickback to the Musical Outfits.
