Silly me, I was gonna blog this song yesterday. I thought I had all my ducks in a row, but I wasn’t truly together. As I started putting words to the page I realized I didn’t have to music to go with it. Oops. To the rescue comes Matt a member of Nine Fifty. The bonus is, I got a second chance to get it right.
Second chances. How often do you come across things in life where you wish you had a ‘do-over’? Meaning a second chance. Or have you done things where you’d want a ‘take back’? See, that’s also the same idea as wanting a second chance. I know there have been times while playing poker where I’ve beat myself looney over a play I did or didn’t make and had wished that I had another chance to go back and correct the mistake. Do most second chances involve mistakes?
How about a second chance where you just loved something you did so much but it was a one time thing? Now that would be a situation where it would be great to have a second chance. Come to think of it… Give me a second, I’ll figure out a memory where I was enamored and wished for a second chance…
Still thinking…
Ah, got it. I was on a vacation with my mom, my aunt and uncle to France. We were somewhere in some small village where we stopped to have dinner. The waitress had come over to take everyone’s order. Then at the end of it and as she walked back to the kitchen my mom starts attempting to get the waitress’s attention by saying “changé, changé”. What we were hearing was shan-ja, shan-ja. So I challanged her thinking that that couldn’t possibly be the word for changing an order in French. My vocabulary was limited, but I was damn sure that couldn’t be it. In fact, my aunt and uncle agreed, that couldn’t be it either. So we made a bet. The waitress came back with the order pad she was using and understood that my mom wanted to change her order.
Turns out that she was damn close to being right, Changé would be more of a slang for change, but it’s actually Changement. Which is very close to what she was saying in shan-ja. Chalk one up for mom. What I do want to make note of is the Créme Brouillet I had for dessert. It was amazing. Probably the best Créme Brouilet I’ve ever had. Period. I would hope so, since it is a French dessert (at least I think it is). That evening will never get recreated and it was a fantastic one.
As for Nine Fifty, they’re not French (at least I don’t think they are). I’m kinda betting they’re not even from outside the U.S. Though I will say that I think their sound is. I’m getting a celtic, britty, poppy, cheeky, kinda thing going on. A very raw quality, but for what it is works remarkably well. Can’t beat that. Well, you could, but then you’d be asking for another second chance. I recommend poking around in the Nine Fifty world. Oh and buy the song. It’s catchy. If you don’t like it on the first listen, give it a second chance. If you’re not liking it on the second listen, then you should give it another second chance, then buy it on the third.
