If you’re an American, chances are that yesterday you spent the day in front of a TV either with friends or family or a combination of both. It’s that unofficial American holiday known as The Super Bowl. This years Super Bowl was certainly one of many firsts. Mind you I don’t watch football. I don’t follow football. There is generally only one football game I watch in any given year and that’s the Super Bowl.
It was apparently the first Super Bowl to be played in the rain. For me, I think that was something that really lead to an exciting game. It got underway in the very first play where the Bears had made a touchdown on the kickoff. Not only a first in post-season play for the Bears, but also the Super Bowl. That really got the excitement level off to a roaring start. Then came all the fumbles some back to back. Talk about a way to raise the level of entertainment. In my mind I think football would be a blast to watch if the games were like this Super Bowl. The NFL ought to consider purposefully making the ball wet so that it’s more difficult for the players to hold on to.
Aside from the game it’s likely one of several days in the year where someone on a diet ends up saying to hell with it and eating oodles of junk, snacks and drinking lots of beer and alcohol. I joined some friends in Hermosa Beach that I hadn’t seen in a while. From there we went to someone’s house on the edge of Redondo. They had three TV’s, and a large amount of food all ready for game consumption. I sent caution to the wind and got my snack on.
In addition to the game is the commercials. It could be said that a large portion of people end up watching the Super Bowl for the commercials alone. As a whole I think the quality of the commercials this year was generally pretty week. Three were laugh out loud funny and of those two, I only remember the Dorito’s one. The amazing thing about that? It wasn’t done by a major ad agency. Instead it was a user submitted commercial. How about that. A commercial by an enduser and it appears to be the one commercial that should be worth watching. The other that I do remember was for FedEx in space. That one was quite good as well. Though I’m betting it was conceptualized by a major ad company.
All in all, it was a fun day with friends and a fun game to watch. By the way, who did you want to win?
Enjoy the morning after the Super Bowl song of getting a Better Life. If you don’t have it, you best get it. I dig the groove going on with the banjo line, very unordinary for country. It’s more like Alternative Country Rock. What’s up with that eh?
