I came across Tara on Myspace one day. Actually I think she came across me and I took a moment to listen. So I mention Single of the Day because I really liked this song. She replied and gave me permission to blog about the song and I put it in queue to blog about, then opps, I had forgotten something about her and because I don’t do the fellow band request thing, I had to e-mail her back to ask the band name. Nothing makes you feel more dopey than asking an artist for the name of their band when you’ve already contacted them.
Tara promptly wrote back and said, Tara James. Geez, I could have just looked at the e-mail for that one. Silly me. It’s a curious thing to forget. I don’t do it very often. In fact some people seem to believe that I have a photographic memory. Case in point: last night I went to Erin’s father’s house to watch some movies with her. I hadn’t had dinner, so I said I’d be along after I ate. She was already on her way. She wanted me to call if I had needed directions. She knew I had only been there once, maybe twice.
After I had my dinner I popped up some popcorn and headed over. I showed up at the gate and had to call because I didn’t see a way to get in. Erin answered and was surprised that I was outside the gate. I don’t know what it is, but generally, I’m able to find places I’ve been too. I wouldn’t call it photographic. It’s just how I am. I tend to believe everyone is the same way, but I suppose that’s not the case. I used to deliver pizza’s went I was 16 in Park City. I was the fastest guy they had. I made damn good money. I had to maybe look at a map of Park City once or twice the entire time I delivered for the Park City Pizza Co. (some of the best pizza ever!). Well, maybe more than once or twice, but only when it was a new street added or something.
I developed great driving skills for driving in inclement weather, namely snow. I also ended up knowing how to get around town in traffic using all types of street tricks. Food is serious business. Getting someone their pizza was a big deal. Apparently most of the other guys that worked delivery with me would take their time, chat a bunch at every stop, and complain when they wouldn’t get tips. Me, I ran in and out. I ran all the time. I’d be cordial, but quick, not much small talk. I think people understood that I meant business to get other people’s pizza to them just like I got theirs to them. I generally got tipped quite well. I never forgot any thing for anyone’s order. While other drivers routinely forgot all kinds of things. I don’t know why, it’s not a hard job.
There are some things I’d like to forget. But like an elephant I retain them, harbor them and hate them. Sometimes I will forget things after a long time has passed. I guess I generally have a good memory, I don’t know why.
As for Tara, you can bet I’m not going to forget her name associated with her music. Mostly because I’ve already embarassed myself by asking the band name, twice. Personally, I like the production on the song. The guitars are super crispy and it’s so appropriate for the style she’s doing. I think the pic I snagged off myspace is also perfect for the sound and her vocal style. You get an immediate sense of what she’s about. Something a lot of fledgling bands forget, especially when they’re out to conquer the world. For that I have high hopes for Tara.
Take a moment and message her on the ‘space. I’m sure she’d be happy to hear from you. Maybe prod her to get the music up on iTunes or at the very least on CD Baby. Who knows, she’s probably already in process. Heck, you might be stumbling on this post years from the date I posted it and she’s already touring with the big guns.
