It’s the day after the famed day of professed love. So who out there has met the love of their life? Did it start last night? Was it a trip to the local pub to get soused, drown the sorrows of being single and pop there’s a new romance? Maybe Rahsaan has got what you need.
Myself I spent the evening with Erin, we frequented our local sushi place, had some sushi and alcohol and had fun. It’s the Wednesday night thing. Usually it’s not very busy there, but it was extremely packed last night. 🙁 Still we ate ourselves full and enjoyed the night.
Burnin’ also describes how I feel coding a new application for my own jodywhitesides.com website. That’s right, in addition to being a musician and music junkie, I’m a code monkey too. At least that’s what my buddy Chris calls me – his little code monkey. I recently updated my site (maybe you’re reading this from jodywhitesides.com so you’re already aware of the new look). Well in addition to all those changes I made visually and technically, I’ve been working on a media player.
Not just a simple MP3 player but a full fledged Video and MP3 player, including podcasts. I wanted it to originally look exactly like a video iPod with the same type of controls that worked exactly the same as the video iPod. It took a long time to get the button wheel to work right. That wasn’t an easy task. I also spent time rethinking the look of the player itself. Initially I showed the look of the item to friends to get feedback about it. Everyone complained it was too big on screen, so much for making an exact replica. At that point, I also figured that Apple wouldn’t be overly joyed about a player that not only looked like their famed device but also operated the same.
Second gen look turned my art on it’s side and made a majority of the app the viewing space. So I had to figure a way to now get the button wheel out of the way when things were playing. That was a major pain in the ass, but I finally got around it. So now my button wheel is transparent and when you mouse off it, it fades away. When you mouse on it, it fades in. Pretty slick. I’ve also finally got the menus working with nice transitions between parts. I’m currently debugging and linking all the final menus to the files they are supposed to play.
My intent is to make it a little more fun for the surfer to play with my music. I hope it’s not too many button clicks to audio bliss. Functionally it’s as simple as the iPod. Most people seem to know how to work that, so hopefully people will get the hang of it. Right now I feeling my ears burn because you’re wanting to see this in action and your thinking about it and telling your friends. Well, don’t fret. As soon as I have it linked and playing the files, I’ll be updating my website and tell you here, and on myspace, and my e-mail list. I’m proud of how it’s turning out.
Transitions. Rahsaan has a very strange bridge in this song. It’s extremely out of character to the rest of the song. However the more I’ve heard it, the cooler I think it is. That’s a great quality to have in a song. Like a fire the song starts a little iffy and slow. Once the spark ignites the song takes off. That transition I’m refering to might be like a gust of wind taking the flame in a different direction, then dies down and the song keeps burnin’.
(** Disclaimer: If Rahsaan’s label decides to burn me over the blog, I’ll be letting those 1’s & 0’s go up in smoke off the server. The post will remain cause I like transitions. **)
