I’ve figured something out. It has to do with the nature of belief. There are people in this world that believe they are never wrong. I know, I used to be one of them. They enjoy going around and spouting off things that they believe to be true then present them as fact. Spreading such fact is irresponsible, especially when its on a public forum for the rest of the world to see. There are even times when such “facts” are then replicated by others who instantly assume that printed words formulated to phrases are instantly true. Do you know what assume means? I usually tell someone it means it makes an ASS- out of – U – & – ME.
Let scientists assume things, they generally assume things for a while as they expound upon a theory until they can prove it. Once they can prove it, then it is no longer an assumption. In the case of general use in the internet of spreading one’s beliefs, there are times that no matter how many times you repeat or other people repeat it, it still won’t be true.
Case in point. I spend time at a large songwriter’s association’s message boards. As an artist I can learn about some of the dangers that lurk for artists. I can get feedback on musical ideas. I can meet other musicians to jam with when I’m traveling. Every now and then a new person will come along and speak on something business related to the industry. Problems can arise when this happens. Lots of people love to post with fake names and anonymously, thus it can be hard to take what they say at face value because they’re hiding in secrecy. It’s double bad when such a poster is claiming to make such statements from personal experience, then goes on the attack when someone questions their background, and their logic.
This has happened in the past two days on a particular thread that I became interested in. So since I had a little free time I decided to start searching the corners of the net to see what I could dig up on this particular expert who claims to have major publishing deals and written hit songs – but is unable to write coherent phrases in a post, and also has problems spelling things properly. I spent about an hour with all the major music sites and all the PRO sites around the world. I found nothing. Absolutely nothing that could be attributed to this persons name.
I now have one conclusion. It’s a troll. I can’t assume that. But it is a logical conclusion. Having done so, I presented the lack of evidence that I could find to the thread in question. It will be interesting to see how I get attacked for doing such a thing. I don’t mind as I don’t have anything to hide when it comes to me and my music. I’m easy to search out in the respect. However, I have now Lost one hour of my life to do that.
Travis has a myspace page and looks to actually be in another band. This song is something that he recorded for himself in his kitchen. Not bad for a recording done in a kitchen. I’d think with a recording done this nicely it should be found to be considered for iTunes. I think he’s got a real cool quality for a singer/songwriter style. His band appears to be way more rocked out. I can’t quite place his voice, but it certainly reminds me of someone else. Who exactly it is escapes me. This is a great quality to have. To remind a listener of someone else, thus feeling familiar but unable to place exactly who. Sales is what I would expect that to lead to.
Enjoy, check back to see if Travis offers this up on iTunes. If he lets me know, I’ll update the link here.
p.s. – I’ve taken it upon myself to learn the Dvorak layout of keyboard typing. I don’t know why, but it seems like a fun challenge. I’ll let you know how it goes.
