Let me preface this first by saying if you’re offended by some four letter words, you might wish to hit the stop/pause button there on the player. Otherwise play and read on…
The opening riff actually immediately reminded me of a recent b-movie that I really like called Paparazzi. There’s several spots in that movie that have riffs that sound similar and have a similar effect on them. The other thing that makes it memorable to me for that movie is that it’s about the same thing content-wise, the Hollywood establishment. What’s good and bad about it.
Actually listening to this from a musicial standpoint it reminds me of the guitar oriented rock I enjoyed when I was learning to play. You’ve got a hard guitar sound, riffs, guitar solos, pounding drums, etc… Though I will say that Havok is attempting to update it a bit with sythn noises and production techniques.
It would have been a good song to have come up on random play while I was doing a long drive yesterday. I must have listened to close to 200 songs, but with a playlist of nearly 5000 it’s a tough percentage to be heard. But I’ve had their song sitting on my desktop for a bit and I’ve been waiting to get to it for the blog and here it is now. It’s a fairly good way to shoo the year off and look forward into 2007.
As I’m sitting here listening and typing I also get reminded of Papa Roach and the bands that fall into that modern metal type of genre.
I would be curious to see them live. I’d like to see if Havok in Hollywood would live up to the energy that I’m hearing coming out of my speakers. Anyone seen them live? Is it a good stage show? Enquiring minds would like to know. At some point in the future I’m sure we’ll be on the bill at some big festival. But I’d rather not wait. Until then, get them onto your iPod.
